Job Description:
  • The Analyst/Engineer, Data Governance Onboarding & Automation is a hybrid role at the intersection of governance analysis, application onboarding, system discovery, and developer-facing automation.
  • This person will ownClient's processes for onboarding new applications and data systems into the governance ecosystem
  • coordinating metadata collection, system scanning, and registration across Open Metadata, Collibra, Ataccama, and related platforms.
  • Equally important, this role will build and maintain the reporting, dashboards, and automation scripts that help development teams understand and improve their governance posture.
  • This is a role for someone who is analytically sharp, comfortable working with both people and code, and energized by the challenge of bringing structure and visibility to a large and complex data estate.
What You'll Do:

Application Onboarding & System Registration
  • Own and executeClient's application and data system onboarding process into the governance ecosystem
  • coordinating with application owners, data engineers, and system stewards to collect required metadata, classify data assets, and register systems in Open Metadata, Collibra, and Ataccama.
  • Develop and maintain standardized onboarding playbooks, intake forms, and checklists that guide application teams through governance registration requirements
  • covering metadata collection, data classification, lineage documentation, data ownership, and quality expectations.
  • Engage directly with development teams, data owners, and business stakeholders to gather the information needed for successful onboarding
  • tracking progress, resolving blockers, and ensuring systems are accurately represented in the governance catalog.
  • Coordinate system scanning activities acrossClient's data estate
  • working with platform engineers to run schema discovery, sensitive data scanning, and metadata extraction jobs that feed the governance platforms.
  • Maintain an accurate registry of onboarding status acrossClient's application portfolio, producing regular progress reports for governance leadership.
System Scanning & Metadata Discovery:
  • Coordinate and monitor automated system scanning jobs that extract metadata, schemas, and sensitive data indicators from client's applications, databases, and data platforms including Databricks, Azure, Fabric, and on-premises systems.
  • Triage and resolve scan failures, incomplete metadata extractions, and data quality issues in scan outputs escalating complex technical issues to platform engineers as needed.
  • Track scan coverage across the data estate, identifying systems that have not been scanned or have stale metadata, and coordinate remediation efforts.
  • Maintain documentation on scanning configurations, schedules, and coverage metrics ensuring governance leadership has clear visibility into the state of automated discovery.

Developer Reporting & Governance Dashboards
  • Design, build, and maintain governance reporting dashboards and developer-facing scorecards that provide development teams with clear visibility into their governance posture
  • Including metadata completeness, data quality scores, lineage coverage, classification status, and onboarding progress.
  • Produce regular governance metrics reports for leadership covering onboarding pipeline status, scan coverage trends, stewardship activity, and open governance gaps across the data estate.
  • Partner with BI and data engineering teams to ensure governance metrics are sourced accurately from governance platforms (Open Metadata, Collibra, Ataccama) and presented in Power BI, Databricks notebooks, or similar tools.
  • Respond to ad hoc data and reporting requests from governance stakeholders, engineering teams, and leadership
  • performing analysis and producing clear, well-structured outputs.
Automation & Process Improvement
  • Identify manual, repetitive governance processes including onboarding steps, scan coordination, metadata collection, and reporting generation
  • And design and implement automation solutions to reduce manual effort and improve reliability.
  • Build and maintain Python scripts, API integrations, and workflow automations that connect governance platforms (Open Metadata, Collibra, Ataccama) with source systems, ticketing tools, and notification channels.
  • Develop automated notifications, escalations, and follow-up workflows that keep application onboarding and stewardship activities moving without requiring manual intervention.
  • Document all automation solutions clearly, including design rationale, dependencies, and maintenance instructions.
  • Daily use of AI productivity tools (Claude and Cursor or equivalent) for scripting, report generation, documentation, and workflow design.
Stakeholder Engagement & Governance Support
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for application teams going through the governance onboarding process - guiding them through requirements, answering questions, and providing hands-on support.
  • Partner with data stewards, governance platform engineers, and AI engineers to support broader governance program objectives - including metadata enrichment campaigns, data quality initiatives, and classification rollouts.
  • Contribute to governance program documentation, process guides, and training materials for new stewards and onboarding teams.
What You'll Bring:
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Business Analysis, or a related field - or equivalent practical experience.
  • 1 3 years of professional experience in data analytics, data governance, application support, or a closely related discipline.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across both analytical and technical tasks - comfortable producing insights from data and writing automation scripts.

Analytical Skills:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • able to synthesize data from multiple sources, identify patterns, and communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience building reports, dashboards, or scorecards in Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools.
  • Solid SQL proficiency for querying governance metadata, audit logs, and reporting datasets.
  • Comfort working with structured and semi-structured data including JSON, CSV, and API responses.

Technical & Automation Skills
  • Working Python proficiency
  • able to write scripts that automate repetitive tasks, call REST APIs, process data files, and generate reports.
  • Familiarity with REST API integration
  • Ability to read API documentation, make authenticated requests, and process responses.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn governance platforms such as Open Metadata, Collibra, or Ataccama
  • understanding how metadata is structured and how platforms expose APIs for automation.
  • Basic familiarity with Azure, Databricks, or cloud data platforms sufficient to understand scanning and metadata extraction workflows.
