Job Summary

The Test Technician is tasked with conducting electrical, functional, and automated testing of PCBs, cable assemblies, and electronic products in an EMS manufacturing setting. This role is crucial in ensuring products comply with customer and industry standards through defect identification, failure troubleshooting, and collaboration with engineering and production teams to achieve high-quality, timely manufacturing.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform various tests including functional, in-circuit, continuity, environmental, and final tests on PCB assemblies, cable assemblies, and finished electronic devices.
  • Operate test systems such as ICT, flying probe, ATE, JTAG/boundary scan, and use oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and custom test fixtures.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot component and board-level failures using schematics, test reports, and diagnostic tools.
  • Execute test procedures and scripts, and document inspections per customer and internal requirements.
  • Record test results, failures, and corrective actions in MES or data logs.
  • Collaborate with engineering for New Product Introduction (NPI) and validate test processes, fixtures, and procedures.
  • Perform firmware loads, software configurations, and product calibration as needed.
  • Identify ways to improve test efficiency, reduce retest rates, and prevent recurring failures.
  • Ensure compliance with ESD, safety, and quality standards at all times.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot test equipment, fixtures, cables, and tools.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience preferred.
  • 2–5 years of experience as a test or electronics technician in an EMS or electronics manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with ICT, ATE, or functional test systems is highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of electronic components, PCB layouts, and circuit behavior.
  • Proficient with oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, signal generators, and soldering equipment.
  • Ability to interpret schematics, BOMs, test reports, and engineering drawings.
  • Familiarity with IPC standards, ESD practices, and ISO/AS quality systems.
  • Basic soldering/rework skills (SMT and through-hole) are a plus.
  • Capable of performing functional and in-depth testing, troubleshooting, calibration, and documentation.
  • Proficiency with MES/test logging systems.
  • Understanding of test system operation and fixture handling.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Effective communication with engineering, quality, and production teams.
  • Experience with automated test equipment programming or boundary scan tools is preferred.
  • Familiarity with NPI process support and verification activities.
