Test Technician II at HammerHead:

The Test Technician develops and conducts test programs to verify the performance and reliability of Hammerhead products. This employee will work collaboratively with the engineering team on the development of data acquisition equipment for lab and field use. Work assignments will be broad in nature, including large and small scope projects taking place internally and out in the field. He or she will coordinate activities of personnel assigned to projects, recommend changes in methods, design, or equipment, and performs other duties as assigned. This position will report to the Sr. Manager of Engineering.

What Will You Do?

In order to grow and build a successful career with The Toro Company, you will be responsible for:

  • Serving as a core team member of assigned new product development teams.

  • Collaborating with design engineers both in house and remote to develop and execute detailed test plans to include lab tests, field tests, and standard tests.

  • Assembling and developing prototype equipment.

  • Designing and developing test fixtures for and analyzing/reporting results of experimental analysis.

  • Assisting in the design, selection, and application of data acquisition equipment for lab and field tests.

  • Developing design concepts, involving CIPP, electric, pneumatic, hydraulic, and structural systems.

  • Developing and debugging electric, pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical prototypes.

  • Conducting other tests as requested by design personnel and assigned by supervisor.

  • Staying abreast of industry and market standards and procedures that affect Hammerhead products.

  • Making recommendations concerning needs in the areas of facilities, equipment, personnel, and training.

  • Meeting or exceeding typical expectations for creativity, production, work quality, and safety.

  • Interacting directly or by phone with customers who are field testing prototypes.

  • Providing product knowledge to assist in resolving field problems and determining corrective action.

  • Participating in quality initiatives and training as needed, and supporting company Quality policy.

What Do You Need?

To be considered for this role, an individual should meet the following minimal requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent with minimum of three (3) years of experience as a mechanical/electrical technician --OR -- Bachelor's degree in a technical related field (ex. Automotive, Manufacturing, Design, Agriculture.) and minimum two (2) years' experience in related role.

  • Experience with data acquisition devices required, e.g. LabVIEW, SoMat, etc.

  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications is required.

  • CIPP, electric, hydraulic and or pneumatic experience a plus.

  • Understanding of 12V, 24V, and 110V electrical systems.

  • Basic machining and welding aptitude a plus.

  • Training or certification in CIPP, electronics, hydraulics, as a mechanic or other field technician a plus.

  • Have good communication skills, both verbal and written to correspond with internal and external customers clearly.

Work Environment:

  • A valid diver's license and the ability to travel to test fields and inspect machinery, etc. in construction site situations. Inspections may be necessary in inclement weather conditions.

  • Office environment part of the time.

  • Plant environment part of the time. The shop environment includes variable temperature and humidity, noise, and dirt; Physical hazards such as powered vehicles, sharp objects, moving machinery, arc-welding and other electrical equipment, and high-voltage power supplies; Hazardous materials such as fuels, oils, grease, paint, solvents, coolant, pressurized gases, various acids and caustics, cleaners, and metals.

  • Occasional outdoor work in all kinds of weather.
