    Test Technician

    Location: Farmington Hills, Michigan

    Work Arrangement: 100% on-site

    Position Type: Long-term, open-ended contract

    Shift: First shift, Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

    Position Overview

    Reliance One is hiring a hands-on Test Technician for an established automotive systems manufacturer in Farmington Hills, Michigan.

    The Test Technician will perform product development, validation, and verification testing on air-induction systems, carbon canisters, fuel filters, oil filters, oil-mist separators, and related filtration products. This position will prepare samples, create and execute test plans, analyze results, maintain laboratory equipment, and provide clear technical reports to engineering teams.

    The ideal candidate has strong mechanical and fabrication aptitude, experience with test equipment, and the ability to independently troubleshoot technical issues.


    Key Responsibilities

    Product Testing and Validation

    • Read and interpret customer test specifications and Design Verification Plan and Report requirements.
    • Create detailed test plans in partnership with product engineers.
    • Prepare samples and test prototypes according to approved plans and specifications.
    • Perform routine and non-routine development, validation, and verification testing.
    • Complete product, equipment, and vehicle evaluations using standardized procedures.
    • Verify that products meet customer requirements and internal performance, cost, quality, and timing targets.
    • Notify engineering and laboratory management of testing delays or nonconforming results.


    Test Procedures and Equipment

    • Create, execute, and modify test procedures, techniques, fixtures, and equipment.
    • Operate and maintain mechanical and electronic test equipment.
    • Lead troubleshooting activities involving laboratory test systems and equipment.
    • Assist with the design, development, and commissioning of new or revised test equipment and fixtures.
    • Perform and track preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
    • Coordinate annual equipment calibration and maintain accurate calibration records.
    • Identify opportunities to improve test-lab efficiency, equipment performance, and communication.


    Data Analysis and Reporting

    • Collect, process, and analyze test data.
    • Prepare clear and concise test reports.
    • Communicate test results, observations, and recommendations to product engineers.
    • Document test conditions, procedures, results, equipment concerns, and deviations.
    • Provide technical feedback that supports product design improvements.
    • Maintain organized and traceable testing records.


    Quality and Compliance

    • Follow applicable laboratory, customer, quality, and information-security requirements.
    • Maintain compliance with IATF 16949, TISAX, and applicable information-protection policies.
    • Support continuous improvement of laboratory processes, procedures, and documentation.
    • Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient laboratory environment.


    Required Education and Experience

    Candidates must meet one of the following combinations:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field with at least one year of testing or similar experience; or
    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field with a strong interest in hands-on testing and demonstrated mechanical or fabrication aptitude; or
    • Associate degree or technical diploma in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical Technology, or a related field with at least three years of testing experience; or
    • At least five years of related hands-on testing experience, including working with minimal supervision and communicating directly with internal or external customers.


    Additional Qualifications

    • Strong mechanical, technical, and troubleshooting abilities.
    • Experience developing or following test plans and technical procedures.
    • Ability to read and understand engineering specifications and testing requirements.
    • Experience collecting, analyzing, and documenting technical data.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple tests, priorities, and deadlines.
    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation.
    • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with engineers and laboratory personnel.


    Preferred Qualifications

    • Automotive product-development or validation-testing experience.
    • Experience with DVP&R documentation.
    • Experience with mechanical fabrication, test fixtures, or equipment commissioning.
    • Knowledge of equipment calibration and laboratory quality systems.
    • Familiarity with IATF 16949 or TISAX requirements.
    • General programming or software-integration knowledge, including SAP integration, APIs, SQL, ASP.NET, or C++.
