Test Engineer

The ideal candidate will design, develop, and maintain manufacturing test equipment and Acceptance Test Procedure (ATP) test stands for safety-critical electromechanical actuators used in aerospace applications. Hands-on experience with automated test equipment involving electronics, embedded systems, sensors, actuators, and servo control systems.

Eleven Recruiting is searching for a Test Engineer to join one of our largest aerospace manufacturing clients sitting onsite in Rockford, IL.
The ideal candidate will design, develop, and maintain manufacturing test equipment and Acceptance Test Procedure (ATP) test stands for safety-critical electromechanical actuators used in aerospace applications.
This is a hands-on role combining electronics, automated test systems, software, sensors, servo controls, and mechanical design. The Test Engineer will develop new equipment while troubleshooting, upgrading, and maintaining existing systems in a highly regulated aerospace manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and validate manufacturing test equipment and ATP test stands.
• Troubleshoot and optimize test systems across electronic, software, mechanical, sensor, and control systems.
• Develop automated test solutions using LabVIEW or similar platforms.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Product Support teams to ensure test systems meet safety, quality, and compliance requirements.
• Support calibration, maintenance, upgrades, and lifecycle management of test hardware and software.
• Develop test system requirements, specifications, procedures, and validation documentation.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on test efficiency, reliability, quality, and manufacturability.
• Provide technical guidance to technicians and junior engineers.
• Create and maintain operator instructions and test equipment procedures.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in a highly regulated industry; aerospace preferred.
• Hands-on experience with automated test equipment involving electronics, embedded systems, sensors, actuators, and servo control systems.
• Proficiency with LabVIEW or comparable automated test platforms.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks and working knowledge of blueprints and GD&T.
• Familiarity with AS9100, DO-160, or similar aerospace standards.
• Strong troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with human factors engineering, test fixtures, operator interfaces, or manufacturing workstations.
• Experience with automation frameworks, data acquisition systems, and industrial communication protocols.
• Background in servo controls, motor testing, and electromechanical system characterization.
• Familiarity with software configuration management and test software workflows.
• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, DFM, and DFT principles.
• Experience managing small engineering projects, vendors, equipment builds, and schedules.

Salary: $65,000 - $95,000
