Overview
Thales is seeking a Test Engineer II to support the design, development, troubleshooting, and deployment of automated and semi-automated test systems for IFEC products. This position combines hardware and software engineering, with an ideal candidate having approximately a 50/50 balance between the two. Candidates with stronger software experience may also be considered.
The engineer will join a collaborative team of 10 Test Engineers and will be paired with an experienced team member for initial training. The first 2–3 months will primarily focus on learning, supporting, and troubleshooting existing production test sets before transitioning into more independent project work.
This is a contract position with the possibility of extension or conversion based on performance and business needs; conversion is not guaranteed.
Job Description
Design and develop test software and hardware, including adapters and cables, for automated and semi-automated test systems.
Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot automated test sequences and frameworks.
Execute tests and analyze results and logs to identify product, system, or component issues.
Troubleshoot existing production and repair test equipment.
Support test tools used at Thales facilities, airline repair stations, and contract manufacturers.
Develop solutions for hardware and software test-tool issues.
Implement engineering changes into existing test tools.
Participate in design reviews and provide feedback regarding testability and implementation.
Manage test hardware obsolescence and identify replacement solutions.
Document and release engineering processes, drawings, and project documentation through Teamcenter.
Manage technical support requests through JIRA, email, and Microsoft Teams.
Collaborate with engineering teams, suppliers, OEMs, contract manufacturers, and customers.
Define project scope, estimated engineering hours, level of effort, and costs.
Assist with procurement activities, including RFQs, purchase requisitions, and test-tool orders.
Occasional domestic or international travel may be required.
Work across office, engineering lab, manufacturing/production, SIL, and warehouse environments.
Required Skills
Strong NI LabVIEW and TestStand experience, including development and troubleshooting of automated test sequences.
Linux experience.
Visual Studio / C# experience.
Working knowledge of interfacing and networking, including Serial, Ethernet, IP/MAC addressing, VLAN, broadcast, and multicast protocols.
Experience with USB, RS232, RS-422, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and networking protocols.
Working knowledge of electronic test equipment, including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, power meters, audio analyzers, and signal/function generators.
Hardware and software troubleshooting experience.
Ability to follow detailed test procedures with strong attention to detail.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced engineering environment.
Preferred Skills:
SAP and JIRA.
Python or Android development.
Git, GitHub, or Bitbucket.
ARINC standards related to IFE and/or airborne Satcom systems.
Digital and RF testing techniques.
Audio/video analysis, including NTSC TV standards.
