Description
The Texas A&M University College of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts (PVFA) invites applications for a full-time, 9-month tenure-track or tenure review upon hire faculty position in Technical Arts at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. Rank and tenure status will be determined based on prior academic and professional experience and qualifications. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2027.
The College and the Technical Arts & Interactive Media (TAIM) Section seek an innovative scholar, creative researcher, and educator whose work advances the evolving field of Technical Arts. We define Technical Arts as an interdisciplinary field that bridges creative practice, computational systems, emerging media technologies, and digital production methodologies. The successful candidate will contribute to the development of new knowledge, creative inquiry, and technological innovation at the intersection of art, design, performance, computation, and media.
Candidates should demonstrate a strong potential for scholarly and/or creative achievement and an ability to establish a nationally and internationally recognized research agenda. Areas of expertise may include, but are not limited to, technical arts, visualization, computational media, virtual production, simulation, digital performance, interactive systems, immersive media, artificial intelligence and creative practice, procedural systems, computational storytelling, digital fabrication, creative technologies, human-computer interaction, media systems, or related emerging fields.
The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active program of research and/or creative scholarship, pursue external funding opportunities when appropriate, disseminate work through publications, exhibitions, performances, presentations, software systems, patents, or other recognized scholarly and creative outcomes, and contribute to the national and international visibility of the College.
Faculty responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, mentoring graduate students, serving on thesis and dissertation committees, contributing to curriculum development, engaging in interdisciplinary collaboration, and participating in service activities that support the mission of the College and University.
The position offers opportunities to collaborate with faculty across the College of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts and throughout Texas A&M University, one of the nation's leading public research institutions. Faculty are encouraged to develop cross-disciplinary research initiatives that connect creative practice, technology, science, engineering, performance, and design.
About the College
The College of Performance, Visualization & Fine Arts is a new college within the Texas A&M University System and has a diverse and dynamic mission with 109 faculty and over 15 staff members and projected exponential growth in the next five years. The college was formed from three departments/programs spread across the university: the Department of Visualization, the Department of Performance Studies, and the Dance Science Program. The mission of PVFA places a heavy emphasis on faculty and student collaboration and interdisciplinary work in both scholarly and creative research. Texas A&M University leadership has charged the college with developing innovative research and creative works, public performances, and degree offerings at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels that build upon our strength in merging art and science, as well as the traditional fields of music, dance, art, and theater. Faculty also have access to a virtual production stage through the Virtual Production Institute.
