Description

The Department of Biology in the College of Arts and Sciences at Texas A&M University (TAMU) invites applications for two full-time, tenure-track assistant professor positions with 9-month academic appointments with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2027. We are interested in recruiting talented researchers in spinal cord injury research. Successful candidates will bring a robust research program to complement the departments existing strengths in spinal cord regeneration and repair, immunology, glial biology, systems neuroscience, neurodegeneration, neural development, and resilience.

This represents the second phase of a growth initiative in this area, supported by the TIRR Foundation, to increase the breadth and impact of spinal cord injury research at TAMU. The successful candidates will join a rich community of spinal cord injury research in the Texas A&M Spinal Cord Initiative (TAMSCI), a group of nine research labs spanning basic and translational to veterinary and human clinical research. TAMSCI is affiliated with Mission Connect, a collaborative Texas neurotrauma research consortium of scientists from over a dozen Texas research institutions and the Texas Medical Center.

Expectations for successful candidates include developing an externally funded research program, teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses, and engaging in activities outside teaching and research as part of the departments service expectations. Candidates must demonstrate accomplishments and potential appropriate for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor. This is an exciting opportunity for new hires to be a part of a rapidly growing department focused on interdisciplinary problems in biology. The Department of Biology (www.bio.tamu.edu) provides many opportunities to recruit trainees through undergraduate research programs, graduate programs in Biology, and participation in exciting interdepartmental doctoral programs, including Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (eeb.tamu.edu), Genetics (genetics.tamu.edu), and Neuroscience (tamin.tamu.edu). The position includes competitive startup packages and modern laboratory space.

Bryan-College Station, home to Texas A&M University, is a vibrant, dynamic, and rapidly growing community that offers cultural diversity, arts and entertainment, job opportunities, and a high overall quality of life. Located in the heart of the Houston-Dallas-Austin triangle, the region offers the modern amenities of a big city with warm, small-town charm, and its low cost of living makes it an ideal place to live. Texas A&M University is committed to enriching the learning and working environments for all visitors, students, faculty, and staff.

Qualifications

Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in biology, neurobiology, or a related field. We will consider candidates with research programs focused on neural regeneration, neural repair, and synaptic plasticity or related areas. Candidate must demonstrate creativity and excellence in research and scholarship, as well as the potential to establish and maintain an extramurally funded research program.
