Description

The Department of Medical Physiology in the Texas A&M University Naresh K. Vashisht College of Medicine invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Individuals holding a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, with an outstanding record of innovative research and scholarly performance, and with demonstrated expertise in areas of research related to physiology are encouraged to apply. The search is focused on research addressing current challenges in neural, endocrine, and vascular contributions to diseases of metabolism (obesity, type II diabetes, metabolic syndrome, etc.), cardiovascular function (hypertension, chronic heart failure, aerospace, etc.), digestion (GERD, Celiac, Crohns/IBS, etc.), bone health (osteopenia, osteoporosis, etc.), and/or wound healing (burn, infection, etc.).

The successful candidate will receive a highly competitive start-up package and state-of-the-art laboratory space in our newly built Medical Research and Education Building II located on the campus of the Texas A&M University Health Science Center. Expectations include maintaining a vigorous externally funded research program, providing exemplary trainee mentorship, engaging in productive scientific collaborations, and contributing to the teaching mission of the department and Vashisht College of Medicine. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to recruitment and education of graduate students enrolled in our Medical Sciences Graduate Program. The successful candidate will benefit from collaborations and resources provided by multiple centers and institutes at Texas A&M University, including the Cardiovascular Research Institute (CVRI), Center for Airborne Pathogen Research and Imaging (CAPRI), Clinical Science and Translational Research (CSTR) Institute, Institute of Pharmacology and Neurotherapeutics (IPN), Institute for Regenerative Medicine (IRM), as well as our one-of-a-kind Aerospace, Austere, and Military Medicine program.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent professional degree
  • Demonstrated scholarship reflected in peer-reviewed research publications and evidence of federal grant funding appropriate for career stage

Preferred:

  • Advanced training with tools allowing real-time measurements to be made from living systems at the subcellular, cellular, organ, or whole-organism level.
  • Experience with cutting-edge physiological and biomedical research methods.
  • A strong desire to contribute to development of the next generation of biomedical scientists.
