Description
The recently renamed and relaunched Arch H. Aplin III '80 Department of Hospitality, Hotel Management and Tourism has a prominent 60-year history at Texas A&M University, a leading and well-resourced R1 land-grant institution. Applications are welcomed for a full-time tenure-track appointment beginning Fall 2027. This is a 9-month academic position, with additional opportunities for summer appointments. The faculty title of Assistant Professor is dependent on qualifications. The position will be based at the University's flagship College Station campus.
We seek candidates who can contribute to the department's growing strengths in hospitality, hotel management, tourism, and related service industries through innovative, impactful, and industry-relevant scholarship. Areas of interest are open and may include, but are not limited to, hospitality and tourism management, technology-enabled service innovation, data-informed decision-making, complex service systems, and other emerging topics relevant to hospitality, tourism, and related service industries.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels to; engage in student mentorship; develop a productive and externally visible research program; and engage in service (to the department, university, profession, and/or industry and community partners).
The department holds consistently high ratings in global rankings of university hospitality, tourism and recreation programs and has an established record of accomplishment in teaching, research and public service. Our distinguished, multi-disciplinary faculty has authored thousands of impactful journal articles, books, and technical reports, and have provided intellectual leadership internationally in hospitality, tourism, events and recreation. According to ScholarGPS 2025 we are ranked 10th in the world and 2nd in the US for tourism scholarship from 2021-2025. We will continue our mission of responding to societal needs, generating and disseminating knowledge that increases understanding of relationships amongst people, environments and the visitor economy. We are re-imagining and elevating hospitality as well as advancing wellness and prosperity through positive experiences in sustainable settings. We provide a supportive scholarly environment and are expanding interdisciplinary collaborations within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and beyond.
Qualifications
A Ph.D. in Hospitality, Hotel Management and Tourism or a related discipline is required. Current Ph.D. candidates must have the degree in hand by their date of appointment.
Required Experience: Successful candidates will possess an evidence-based pedagogical background and have demonstrated effective communication skills through instructional activities and outreach, plus meaningful University teaching experience within the advertised field. They must also have started a research agenda that has meaningful impacts on our field.
Preferred Experience: Substantive professional experience in hospitality, hotel management, tourism, or related service industries is desirable but not required. We welcome candidates who have recently completed their Ph.D. or are near completion, and who demonstrate strong potential for a sustained research program.
Candidates should show clear promise in the pursuit of competitive research funding, supervising graduate students, and contributing to interdisciplinary research initiatives. We also encourage applications from early-career scholars currently in tenure-track or equivalent positions who have begun to establish a record of high-quality publications and external funding.
