The Department of English and World Languages in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences welcomes applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor in American Literature, specializing in multiethnic traditions.

About the position:

The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to teach courses in Millersville University's undergraduate and graduate English programs in both face-to-face and online modalities. Teaching assignments may include upper-division and graduate courses pertaining to the candidate's specialization, lower-division survey and topics courses, and general education writing courses. Faculty are expected to hold regular office hours.

Preference will be given to candidates with research and teaching interests in one or more of the following areas of multiethnic literature:

• Latino literature
• Indigenous literatures of the Americas
• Early Multiethnic American literature

An ideal candidate may also have a secondary specialization in film studies and/or eco-criticism.

Salary and rank are commensurate with qualifications as well as aligned with the details contained in the Collective Bargaining Agreement and the Millersville University Promotion Statement.

Duties and Responsibilities

EFFECTIVE TEACHING AND PERFORMANCE OF PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to teach courses in Millersville University's undergraduate and graduate English programs in both face-to-face and online modalities. Teaching assignments may include upper-division and graduate courses pertaining to the candidate's specialization, lower-division survey and topics courses, and general education writing courses. Faculty are expected to hold regular office hours.

A typical course load is four courses per semester. There is the possibility for summer and winter classes. May teach day, evening, and/or weekend assignments.

Required Qualifications

• PhD in English (or related discipline), or ABD with Ph.D. by time of appointment, with a focus within the field of American Literature or related field.
• Demonstrates ability to teach American literature courses, including American literature surveys.
• Evidence of relevant research/scholarly activity.
• Evidence of ability to teach courses that facilitate students' examination of the diverse cultural and personal contexts that shape literature, identity, and culture.
• Evidence of ability to employ multifaceted teaching strategies for face-to- face classroom delivery, distance learning, or blended learning.
• Commitment to inclusive practices and working with diverse student populations.
• Successful interview, scholarly presentation, and teaching demonstration.
• Successful completion of three background checks.

Preferred Qualifications

• Research and teaching interests one or more of the following areas: Latino literature; Indigenous literatures of the Americas; early Multiethnic American literature.
• Successful experience teaching courses within the field of Multiethnic American Literature.
• Secondary research and teaching interest in film studies and/or eco-criticism.
• Successful experience teaching general education writing courses.
• Experience in course and/or curriculum development.
• Evidence of teaching with high-impact practices.

Essential Functions

• Record and calculate grades, prepare course outline and syllabus, develop course and lesson plans, engage in the selection of appropriate textbooks and other teaching aids necessary to the delivery of instruction.
• Use computer for email, obtain information on websites, prepare class documents, grade papers, submit final grades online and other duties related to teaching and advising students and serving the department, college, university and community.
• No or very limited exposure to physical risks.
• Operate a computer keyboard and mouse.
