JOB TITLE: TEMPORARY TITLE I TUTOR FOR PRIVATE SCHOOL STUDENTS
GROUP: Miscellaneous Hourly/On Call/Temporary FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt SUMMARY: This position provides education assistance and support to students who are struggling academically, specifically those most at-risk of failing to meet high academic standards in reading, writing, and math. School Districts receiving Title I grants are required to set aside funds for private school student services. Title I monies cannot be transferred or given directly to the school. All Title I services must be delivered outside of core curriculum activities.
CONTEXT AND WHO WE ARE: Highline Public Schools serves students and families in the communities of Burien, Des Moines, Normandy Park, SeaTac and White Center in Washington state.

Under the direction of a certificated teacher at the Private School, this person will:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education and Experience AA degree or High school diploma (or equivalent) and 72 college credits or High school diploma (or equivalent) and successful completion of an approved paraeducator assessment test
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Previous experience working with children in a classroom setting
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: Criminal background clearance Pass a post-hire, pre-employment physical assessment (a requirement of substitute/temporary employment) All certificates, licenses, endorsements, permits, and vaccines (absent exemption) as required for this position by state and local authorities
KNOWLEDGE OF: Positive behavior interventions such as Check, Connect, & Expect Basic math Writing skills including grammar and punctuation Computer software applications Stages of child development and learning styles Age appropriate activities School board policies and procedures
ABILITY TO: Communicate effectively and clearly both verbally and in writing at all levels Operate a microcomputer and related software Maintain effective working relationships with individuals and groups in a multicultural and diverse community Remain flexible to changes in assignments or situations Organize activities, collect data, set priorities, and follow instructions Work cooperatively with staff, students and parents in a school environment Make sound decisions and resolve staff conflicts tactfully and diplomatically Monitor student behavior Use basic job-related equipment Problem solve; interpret guidelines, identify issues and create action plans Attend to detail and follow tasks through to completion Maintain strict confidentiality Work on a team, especially one made up of office personnel, and troubleshoot end-user problems Comply with school board policies and follow administrative procedures

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will constantly stand and walk, bend neck and back, use hands for repetitive grasping and pushing/pulling. The employee is frequently required to squat, kneel, use hands for fine manipulation, knee sta nd and push/pull. The employee will occasionally be required to sit, climb stairs/ladder, lift and reach overhead, crawl, and lift/carry. The employee must constantly lift/carry up to 10 pounds and must frequently lift /carry up to 20 pounds. The employ ee will occasionally lift/carry a maximum of 50 lbs. The employee is occasionally required to push/pull a maximum weight of 10 pounds. Anything over the weight limits should be done as a two-person lift or with a mechanical lift.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in indoor conditions and regularly works near video display. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is required to properly wear any personal protection equipment supplied by the District.
