    Job Summary

    MSI Connect is part of the Rackham PACE Team's MSI (Minority Serving Institutions) Initiative and is designed to support graduate students at U-M who are alumni of minority serving institutions (MSIs). The MSI Connect team consists of graduate student ambassadors, graduate student coordinators and a full time staff member, who work to organize professional development, cultural and social events with the objective of providing space for students to form community, learn together, and support each other.

    PLEASE NOTE: Some late afternoon, early evening or weekend work may be necessary

    Responsibilities*

    Include but are not limited to:

    • Collaborate with MSI team members to develop events and programs that support, uplift, and build community for MSI alumni.
    • Assist with event logistics and record keeping (e.g. scheduling, catering, documenting event attendance, set-up, etc.).
    • Assist with event marketing and communications via social media.
    • Attend bi-weekly meetings with the MSI Connect team.
    • Attend and participate in MSI Connect sponsored events.
    • Provide assistance to the PACE team with miscellaneous tasks related to the MSI Initiative.

    Required Qualifications*

    • Current graduate student, preferably from an MSI
    • Interest or experience in working with Minority Serving Institution(s) and/or programs focused on community building
    • Leadership / administrative experience in organizations (campus, community, etc.)
    • Strong organizational skills
    • Ability to work as part of a team and capacity to work independently
    • Knowledge of productivity tools including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation, electronic communication and calendaring software packages (Google, Microsoft, etc.)

    Modes of Work

    Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

    Work Schedule

    Ambassadors can work up to 50 hours over the course of a semester (Fall; Winter; Spring/Summer) or 25 hours per half semester (Spring; Summer). The work and workload might look different based on the needs of the individual, distribution of work amongst the team, and time of year.

    Example of work distribution per semester:

    Training & Biweekly Meetings: 5-10 Hours

    Planning & Organizing Events: 15-25 Hours

    Attending Events, Panels: 5-15 Hours

    Participating in Recruitment Activities: 5-10 Hours
