Position Announcement

At Utah Valley University, this position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on student success and community engagement by serving as a key member of the Fulton Library team. Working collaboratively with library staff and student employees, this role combines customer service, team leadership, and operational support to help create a welcoming, engaging, and resource-rich environment for students, faculty, and visitors. Employees in this position are often the first point of contact for library patrons, providing assistance that helps connect individuals with the services, resources, and information they need to achieve their academic and personal goals.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Supervises part-time and student employees, training and coaching them on department protocols and tasks. Fosters positive culture by communicating clear expectations and modeling appropriate behavior, supporting employee endeavors, and stimulating employee morale. Communicates updated procedures and expectations verbally and in writing. As the sole supervisor on a weekend day, takes particular interest in developing a strong working culture with that sub-team.
  • Oversees the organization, functionality, and appearance of departmental workspaces, service points, and stacks areas to support efficient operations and positive user experiences. Establishes and maintains optimal organizational systems and cleanliness procedures, including coordination of light housekeeping activities and ongoing assessment of space utilization. Provides training, communication, and operational guidance to a large staff, ensuring consistent implementation of organizational standards and best practices across service and stacks areas.
  • Maintains knowledge of department protocols and library and campus resources to provide frontline service. Connects library patrons to the information they seek, and circulates materials to them. Promotes a safe environment by learning security procedures. Intervenes when appropriate. Troubleshoots and communicates building operation and security issues.
  • Works as a member of the team, contributing ideas to update and improve individual and department operations. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

  • Graduation from an accredited institution with an associate's degree in a related field of study; OR a combination of education and experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling two years.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Supervisory experience in a library, customer service, higher education, or public service environment, including training, scheduling, and directing the work of employees or student staff.

  • Knowledge of general library practices.

  • Skills in supervising, including behavior modeling, relationship building, conflict resolution, team building, coaching, and training.

About Company

Utah Valley University was established in 1941 as Central Utah Vocational School (CUVS) with the primary function of providing war production training. CUVS was part of the Provo School District located in south Provo. The institution received a state appropriation in March 1945 of $50,000 to operate for the 1945-1947 biennium. In 1947, the school received funding as a permanent state institution. A new site for the school was acquired on University Avenue in Provo in 1948; in the 1952, the state appropriated funding for the first construction on that site. As enrollments grew, the state acquired over 185 acres in southwest Orem and the first building was completed in 1977. Today, the University’s facilities consist of a combined total of 412 acres with 50 buildings with campuses in Orem, Provo, and Heber City and property in Vineyard and at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi.
