Medical Services at the University of Colorado, Boulder are seeking applications for a Temporary Medical Assistant! This position provides comprehensive health care, education and customer service to include primary care, gynecological and transgender services primarily to the student population. This may also include care of CU Boulder faculty, staff and their dependents and on urgent occasions, treatment to injured or ill University visitors. Position provides team-based support to providers, improves efficiency and productivity to Medical Services. This position assists the provider(Physician/APN) to aid in clinic flow, productivity and continuity of care to patients and CU Boulder community. This is a temporary position that is anticipated to last through May 1, 2027.

Medical Services provides a wide range of health care services for students for primary care, physicals, sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment, allergy shots, vaccinations, travel health care, and concussion care. Our skilled team of providers collaborate to support the overall health of our students with our team of physicians/nurses, physical therapists, registered dietitians, chiropractors, acupuncturists, and massage therapists.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Provider Support/Patient Care/Customer Service

  • Interview patients to identify primary complaints, collect appropriate vital signs, and record relevant medical history in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) during the patient intake process.
  • This includes gathering historical data on previous allergies, updating the patient's medication list, documenting significant medical history, family medical history, and identifying learning barriers.
  • Responsible for charging and charting all procedures, treatments, and medications administered, implementing the provider's treatment plan for patients of all ages (primarily late adolescents and early adulthood population).
  • Assist in direct patient care procedures, administer prescribed medications and immunizations, and support nurses and providers during procedures based on competencies in Medical Services.
  • Familiar with the location of the crash cart and is available to assist RN and Provider staff in a code situation as delegated by an RN or provider.
  • Responsible for daily and as-needed stocking of exam rooms, including infection prevention and cleaning between patients.

Point of Care

  • The MA performs Point of Care (POC) tests on patients regularly, ensuring compliance with CLIA regulations.
  • Competency tests are conducted annually to maintain compliance.
  • All POC tests are documented in the EMR for accurate charting and charging.

EMR Documentation

  • The MA is responsible for documenting and charging in the EMR for all procedures, POC tests, treatments, and medications administered.
  • Charting and charging are completed at the time of care.
  • To meet AAAHC standards, Medical Assistant I conducts random audits of Medical Assistant charts twice a year.

  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Program from an accredited institution with certification.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Active Medical Assistant registration or certification such as:
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) and proof of current membership from American Medical Technologists (AMT),
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) and proof of current membership from American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) and proof of current membership from National Health career Association (NHA)
  • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) and proof of current membership from National Certified Competency Testing (NCCT)
