Position Summary:

The Department of Biological Sciences, housed in the Beck College of Science and Mathematics, is seeking a full-time Temporary Instructor to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in biotechnology and molecular biology for the Spring 2027 semester (January 1 - May 15, 2026). Continued employment beyond the initial appointment may be possible, subject to funding availability and successful performance.

The successful candidate will contribute to the education and professional preparation of undergraduate and graduate students through a combination of advanced scientific knowledge, laboratory-based instruction, and application of current biotechnology methods and technologies. The program features a well-equipped biotechnology teaching laboratory and with additional access to select core instrumentation and resources within the Arkansas Biosciences Institute, the university''s biotech research facility.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will join a collaborative team of interdisciplinary biotechnology and cell/molecular faculty group who are committed to supporting new instructors as they transition into both the classroom and laboratory environment. Experienced faculty members will serve as teaching resources and mentors to facilitate a successful onboarding experience.

The instructor will be responsible for teaching the following courses:

• Molecular Biology (graduate and undergraduate sections): Instruction will focus on both foundational and advanced concepts in molecular biology, with an emphasis on their applications in biotechnology.
• Lab in Biotechniques II (graduate and undergraduate sections): An advanced laboratory course that emphasizes hands-on application of molecular and cellular biotechnology techniques. Course content may incorporate the instructor's areas of expertise and research interests.
• Applications of Biotechnology: The undergraduate Biotechnology Program''s capstone course. The instructor will guide students in professional development activities and supervise the completion of a capstone project.

While instructors have flexibility in shaping course content, the curriculum is well-established, and teaching materials, including lecture presentations, assignments, and other resources, are available to support course delivery.

Preferred Expertise

Candidates should demonstrate a strong foundation in molecular and cellular biology and the ability to apply these principles in biotechnology. Preferred qualifications include experience in one or more of the following areas:

• Expertise in several relevant wet-laboratory methods, experimental design, and data analysis.
• Biotechnology laboratory techniques and applications including DNA/RNA analysis, gene expression, and related molecular methods.
• Cell culture and cellular technologies.
• Bioinformatics and computational approaches in biotechnology.
• Integration of molecular and cellular biology concepts with modern biotechnology applications.

Consideration will be given to candidates who can incorporate bioinformatics and contemporary biotechnology approaches into classroom and laboratory instruction.

Preferred Qualifications:

• College or university teaching experience.
• Experience teaching laboratory-based biotechnology or molecular biology courses.
• Expertise in bioinformatics or computational biology.
• Industry, research, or applied biotechnology experience.
• Familiarity with capstone structured courses (taking them and/or teaching).

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver engaging undergraduate and graduate-level instruction.
• Provide hands-on laboratory instruction and demonstrate current molecular and biotechnology techniques.
• Integrate real-world applications, current research, and industry practices into coursework.
• Teach and assess student learning through assignments, laboratory activities, projects, examinations, and other appropriate methods.
• Mentor students and support their development of professional biotechnology skills.
• Communicate about current advances in molecular biology, biotechnology, cellular technologies, and bioinformatics.
• Contribute to the academic and professional goals of the Biotechnology Program.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Strong background in molecular biology and biotechnology.

Demonstrated hands-on experience with molecular and/or cellular laboratory techniques.

Ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate and/or graduate level

Monday - Friday

8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Biology, or a closely related field.
