Job Description:
Summary:
The role of this position is to help provide a safe, functional, clean, and attractive living and learning environment within housing residential facilities. Through in-the-field support this position evaluates in-room amenities and rental products for repair or replacement; delivers and installs furniture including bed lofts; and organizes and inventories storage rooms. Additionally, this position provides general support in the day-to-day operation of residential facilities, including quality control inspections. This position also supervises student staff serving in the Residential Maintenance Crew role as they support the assessment, delivery, and management of residential facility assets provided and overseen by the Housing Facilities Specialist.
This position reports to Associate Director of Housing Operations and works in tandem with one additional Housing Facilities Specialist and is a part of the overall Housing Operations Team. The Housing Operations Team is responsible for the daily operation of 13 residential buildings, including the supervision of the Residential Maintenance Crew positions.

Salary Range:
Required Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent.
0 - 1 years of experience in property management, facilities management, construction/maintenance, furniture delivery/installation, event set-ups.
Knowledge of basic safety practices.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Community College or Trade School.
1 - 2 years of experience as a Helper/Assistant operating and maintaining a building or property.
1 - 2 Years experience providing customer service.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
Communication and organization skills.
Computer Knowledge (MS Office/Lotus).
This position is expected to understand, enforce, and adhere to all relevant policies and procedures as set forth by Housing and American University. Pay particular attention to policies relating to the safety and security of the residence halls.

The core function of this position includes lifting, moving, and pushing furniture and equipment. This includes items such as, but not limited to, push carts filled with furniture, bookcases, beds, mattresses, loft kits, chairs, desks, and event furniture. Work requests also include disassembling and adjusting furniture in a room, which requires frequently movement and lifting of individual pieces of the furniture. When not responding to work requests, this position organizes storage rooms and assist with staff and office moves. Individual items may weigh up to 45 lbs.
