Purpose

This position is responsible for overseeing skilled work in the operation and maintenance of audio-visual and computer equipment used for internal inspections, inventory, and evaluation of the citys sanitary sewer mains and customer service lines.

Essential Job Functions

  • Oversees the cleaning of sewer lines to be televised.
  • Sets up and prepares equipment for televising and recording.
  • Enters daily inspection reports from each task performed.
  • Conducts a pre-trip inspection of trucks, checking oil, tires, brakes, and lights.
  • Inspects work sites to ensure safe working conditions.
  • Performs televising and recording duties for the department.
  • Maintains and repairs all televising equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED equivalent, with four (4) years of work experience in sanitary sewer, stormwater, or wastewater treatment and some exposure to videotaping production; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Must possess and maintain a valid state drivers license with an acceptable driving history.

Additional Requirements: Background investigation, including supervised drug screen, post-offer/pre-employment medical screen, and verification of education, certifications, and licenses required prior to employment.

Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of wastewater collection systems.

Skill in reading maps and blueprints.

Skill in the use of cameras, vacuum trucks, and line locators.

Minimum Standards SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Televising Inspection Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results.

GUIDELINES: Guidelines include OSHA regulations, city codes and ordinances, city and department policies and procedures, and supervisory instructions. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application.

COMPLEXITY: The work consists of varied technical and maintenance duties. Different and varied processes and methods contribute to the complexity of the work.

SCOPE AND EFFECT: The purpose of this position is to inspect and maintain the departments pipelines. Successful performance helps ensure a safe and healthy work environment and a safe water supply.

PERSONAL CONTACTS: Contacts are typically with co-workers and other department employees.

PURPOSE OF CONTACTS: Contacts are typically used to give or exchange information and provide services.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work is typically performed while sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguishes between shades of color.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed in an office or wastewater treatment plant. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, contagious or infectious diseases, irritating chemicals, machinery with moving parts, and occasional cold or inclement weather. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, or gloves.
