TELEMETRY TECHNICIAN

POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction and supervision of the professional nurse in charge of the ICU, the telemetry technician is responsible for the continuous monitoring of heart rhythms and electrical activity of the heart, recognizing abnormal rhythms, interpretation of electrical activity and rhythms and informing the ICU nurse/primary nurse regarding any significant changes. They communicate with other departments regarding rhythm changes and lead or battery issues. They are also responsible for entering telemetry statistics.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

MINIMUM EDUCATION
Successful completion of a certified nurse assistant training course; satisfactory completion of foundations course in nursing school; successful completion of an EMT training course; or 3 years nurse assistant experience.
Successful completion of EKG Recognition class PLUS 80-hours of telemetry observation with a qualified telemetry tech within first 6 months of employment.

REQUIRED REGISTRATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
Applicable Resuscitation and other position-related certifications must be obtained within the timeframe established by SRHC policy.

Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers up to 50 pounds
Prolonged, extensive or considerable standing/walking
Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching
Manual dexterity and mobility
Near acuity: ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less
