Overview:

The Telemetry Monitor Room Technician is responsible for the continuous observation, interpretation, and documentation of cardiac rhythms on monitored patients to support safe and effective care delivery. This role plays a vital part in ensuring patient safety through timely recognition and reporting of cardiac rhythm changes, arrhythmias, or other abnormalities to the appropriate nursing and medical staff.

Responsibilities:
  • Continuously monitors cardiac rhythms for patients on telemetry and promptly notifies nursing staff of any significant changes or life-threatening arrhythmias. 
  • Accurately identifies, interprets, and documents cardiac rhythms and arrhythmias in the electronic medical record (EMR) per policy. 
  • Performs initial and ongoing checks to ensure telemetry leads, transmitters, and equipment are functioning properly and alarms are set appropriately. 
  • Demonstrates understanding of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and the purpose and limitations of telemetry monitoring. 
  • Collaborates with nursing and ancillary staff to promote continuity and safety of care 
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and quiet work environment conducive to accurate observation and communication. 
  • Adheres to hospital policies, infection control procedures, and patient confidentiality standards. 
  • Participates in ongoing education, competency validation, and professional development related to telemetry monitoring. 

 

Qualifications:
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to remain focused in a fast-paced environment.
  • Basic understanding of cardiac rhythms and medical terminology.
  • Proficiency in using telemetry and other monitoring equipment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Previous experience as a telemetry technician, monitor tech, or nursing assistant with telemetry experience preferred
  • Successful completion of a recognized EKG/Telemetry interpretation course or hospital-based competency within 90 days of hire
Credentials:
  • BLS – Basic Life Saving Certification
  • EKG Certification/Class (preferred)
Education:
  • High school graduate or equivalent  
Entry: USD $17.25/Hr. Max: USD $26.74/Hr.
