Job Summary and Qualifications Provides safe and effective care through effective monitoring of telemetry patients throughout the hospital. Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external customers through timely answering and management of incoming phone calls to the unit. As a Telemetry Monitor Tech, you will organize and facilitate smooth flow of work and communication of information within unit and among hospital departments. Interacts effectively with patients, families, visitors, physicians, and other care providers. Facilitates response to patient/family/physician needs communicated via call system or telephone. Demonstrates effective customer interaction skills. Maintains unit logs and other documentation systems as directed. Initiates cardiac monitoring upon physician order, or per approved protocol, sets limits and arrhythmia alarm limits, adjusts limits after validating parameters with responsible nurse. Enters patient data at central monitor system. Maintains log of telemetry patients, to include order date, discontinue date, room number, account number, name, physician, diagnosis, and telemetry unit number. Labels central monitor with patient identifier data. Coordinates with nursing unit when patient's waveform displays interference or is absent. Monitors waveforms, responds to alarms immediately, notify responsible nursing staff of dysrhythmias. Identifies advanced arrhythmias, notifies nursing staff. Validates own interpretation of dysrhythmia with licensed nursing staff. Reviews interpretation of other technicians and corrects or instructs as needed. Records, labels and posts a six second strip at the beginning of each shift and as needed with any changes in rhythm. Understands the physiology and treatment of the disease process and how it impacts the rhythms and instructs other technicians. Prepares shift report for each nursing area following department procedure includes baseline rhythm and any changes. Reviews other technician's reports and coaches for compliance or changes. Identifies patients eligible for triage and initiates following approved procedure. Discontinue telemetry when ordered. Maintains system to track use of telemetry monitors and prevents loss. What qualifications you will need: Education/Skills High School diploma or equivalent required. Some College preferred. Experience Previous telemetry monitoring experience preferred; must demonstrate competency in cardiac rhythm interpretation and lethal/emergent dysrhythmia recognition. Licenses, Registrations and/or Certifications BLS required within 30 days of hire from HCA approved vendor.
