    Description

    Job Title- Telecom Field Technician
    Location - On-site GTA(Pickering), Ontario, Canada.
    Duration - 6+ months

    Role-Specific Responsibilities (On-Site Scope)

    • Physical Hardware Staging & Installation: Unbox, inventory, rack, cable, and power on Cisco collaboration hardware (Cisco Catalyst voice routers, VG420/VG410 high-density analog gateways, compute servers, and Phybridge PoE switches) across data centers and telecom closets.
    • IP Endpoint Rollout: Deploy physical Cisco IP phones (9800 series) to user desks, patch into data jacks/Phybridge adapters, enter activation codes, and verify phone registration on the network.
    • Analog Infrastructure Cutover Support: Assist telecom technicians with physical cross-connects (CAT3/RJ21 amphenol wiring) between legacy terminal blocks and Cisco VG420 gateway ports; test physical dial tone across plant floor phones, hotline/PLAR units, and paging amplifiers.
    • On-Site Test Script Execution: Walk site test scripts covering basic dial tone, inbound/outbound calling, feature testing (hold, transfer, conference), voicemail MWI lights, and emergency line dial checks.
    • Field Punch-List & Inventory Management: Maintain physical asset tracking spreadsheets (MAC addresses, serial numbers, port assignments, and desk locations) and report daily progress to the Project Manager.

    Project-Specific Requirements (RedPrint Form Answers)
    Skills:
    1. Physical Telecom & Network Cabling:
      • Hands-on basic knowledge of structured cabling standards (CAT5e/6, RJ45, RJ11, 25-pair/50-pin RJ21 amphenol connectors).
      • Ability to use basic field testing tools (cable testers, tone generators, and test sets / butt sets for analog line verification).
    2. Cisco Endpoint & Gateway Verification:
      • Basic Familiarity with Cisco IP Phone onboarding, basic LCD menus, and activation code provisioning.
      • Basic CLI and web GUI familiarity to verify link status, interface states, and gateway port LED indicators (VG420, VG410, C8300).
      • Basic understanding of Power over Ethernet (PoE) and long-reach Ethernet adapters (Phybridge).
    3. Data Logging & Asset Management:
      • High proficiency in Excel/spreadsheets to record serial numbers, MAC addresses, port mappings, and testing results accurately.

    Competencies:
    • Safety & Compliance Focus: Proven track record of strictly adhering to enterprise plant safety rules, personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements, and secure facility access protocols.
    • Hands-On Reliability & Work Ethic: Punctual, organized, and physically capable of handling equipment movement, racking, and desk-to-desk hardware rollouts.
    • Collaborative Field Presence: Strong interpersonal skills to interface courteously with on-site customer staff, plant operators, and local cabling contractors.
    • Disciplined Execution: Follows step-by-step technical instructions from remote senior engineering leads without skipping procedural safeguards.

    Language Requirements:
    • English: Fluent (clear verbal communication on-site and accurate written reporting).


    Certifications & Education:
    • Education: Diploma or Degree in Computer Systems Networking, Telecommunications Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent field experience.
    • Certifications (Preferred):
      • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or relevant network technician certificate.
      • Vendor cabling or telecom technician certifications are an asset.

    Additional Project & On-Site Constraints:
    • Site Security Clearance (Mandatory): Must be eligible for and successfully pass Nuclear Facility Security Clearance / Background Vetting for unescorted on-site access in Ontario.
    • Mobility & Transportation: Must hold a valid Ontario Driver s License and have reliable transportation to travel between customer facility sites (Pickering, Darlington, and local corporate offices).
