Description

The City of Richmond Department of Information Technology is seeking to fill a Technology Engineer/Administrator - Server position. The selected candidate will focus on enterprise messaging (Microsoft Exchange) within a hybrid federated environment backed by VMware 5.5, 7, and 8 virtual datacenter and storage.

Duties include but are not limited to

  • Administration of VMWare based solutions, including all Windows and UNIX servers.
  • Administration of Microsoft Active Directory, and some knowledge of Azure AD/Entra Active Directory
  • Administration and knowledge of Exchange on O365
  • Administration and support for SAN Enterprise Storage
  • Administration and support for Enterprise level backups

Incumbents serves as an Essential employee, which means that the incumbent is required to work when the City is closed due to public emergencies, critical or hazardous conditions, or inclement weather

The incumbent in this position is required to serve on-call 24 hours/7 days a week to provide leadership for the support and resolution of problems for critical systems and applications within the assigned City of Richmond portfolio.

Qualifications, Special Certifications and Licenses

  • SAPAR requests
  • Daily monitoring and resolution of IR's/SR's
  • Design and architecture of both on prem and cloud solutions as it relates to server engineering.
  • eDiscovery and FOIA fulfillment
  • Considerable knowledge in the fundamentals in area of focus such as Ethernet, backup and disaster recovery management, IT architecture, telephony knowledge, and IT infrastructure library; Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), Microsoft Active Directory, Office365 and Teams
  • Project Management, including task completion, documentation, and collaboration
  • Analyzing, planning, installing, testing, tracking, implementing, documenting, fixing, and tuning software and hardware systems
  • Windows and security patch management

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related fields
  • Two years of Server Engineering, Architecture, or Azure/SaaS support at an enterprise level
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience may be used to meet the minimum training and experience

LICENSING, CERTIFICATIONS, and OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • None required, but desired
  • Microsoft 365 Certified Administrator (any discipline)
  • VMWare certification (any discipline)

PREFERRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Designing, configuring, deploying, troubleshooting, administering, and maintaining system and devices (specific to Microsoft Exchange)
  • Change management
  • Diagnosing, researching, and resolving issues in area of focus.
