2015 Buncombe County Schools | Job Description | page 1 of 2 TECHNOLOGY ASSISTANT / TECHNOLOGY SERVICES - JOB DESCRIPTION Salary: 61 Reports to: IT Customer Service Manager Supervises: N/A Job Goal: Provide repair service and maintenance of computers for staff and students to aid robust digital teaching and learning. Job Summary: Responsible for completing technology trouble tickets efficiently working within a team environment. Communicate and maintain a professional rapport with school administrators, media center coordinators, teachers, support staff and students and sometimes parents. Install, troubleshoot, maintain and repair staff/student computer hardware, software, and peripherals to aid robust digital teaching and learning. QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma
  • Additional training or experience in the use of computing and information technology resources
  • A+ Certification recommended PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Performs work, including but not limited to installing, troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining staff and student computer hardware and software. Provides support to teachers including, but not limited to, software training and technical advice. Provides assistance with application documentation development for users, generating ad hoc reports, and new hardware and software evaluation. Performs work within a team construct and independently. Communicates in various ways including face-to-face, email, telephone, and virtual collaboration. Provide timely resolution of computer problems by providing answers or referral (escalation). KNOWLEDGE:
  • General knowledge of computer hardware and troubleshooting techniques.
  • General knowledge of education related information technology devices and software.
  • General knowledge of software packages utilized. SKILLS:
  • Ability to communicate effectively with users to determine the nature of problems.
  • Ability to quickly learn new hardware and software.
  • Ability to train users in the use of hardware and software.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders.
  • Coordinating skills to schedule work activities and maintain detailed records of repair work completed.
  • Analytical skills to understand manuals, diagrams, and specifications.
  • Ability to comprehend the purpose of teacher designed strategies as fulfillment of instructional objectives.
  • Ability to solve independently or collaboratively most minor problems. WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Work is usually performed in a school setting.

  • Must have reliable transportation. PHYSICAL:
  • Work requires standing, walking, crawling, climbing, reaching and other non-sitting and non-standing positions
  • Operation of vehicles, office, shop, hand tools, and diagnostic equipment requires manipulative skills and hand-eye coordination. Occasionally climbs ladders and lifts up to 50 lbs. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Valid North Carolina driver's license. TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: 11 Months EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
