WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH
The Technology Insights Group (TIG) at Bain & Company is a rapidly growing global team of world-class consultants and technologists. We work with leading Private Equity (PE) investors and their tech-enabled portfolio companies to act as technical advisors in investment processes. We conduct product and technology due diligence engagements and value creation assignments, leveraging our extensive expertise in software and understanding of commercial environments specific to tech-enabled businesses. We deliver our projects by combining a team of consultants with former CPOs and CTOs of leading global technology and software companies with decades of both advising and operating experience. The team has completed 400+ product and technology diligences and value creation engagements worldwide.
Over the past 5 years, we supported our clients on some of the most visible technology investments in the US and Europe, including several of the global Top 2024 & 2025 software deals.
WHERE YOU'LL FIT WITHIN THE TEAM
You'll be joining TIG as a Technologist. It's an exciting opportunity to help scale a critical capability at Bain. You will work closely with the global Tech leadership as well as regional Private Equity (PE) and General Consulting teams as the experienced technical voice on diligence and value creation engagements. You'll have the opportunity to critically analyse and evaluate some of the most interesting tech and tech enabled companies around gaining exposure to a broad range of technologies, products, industries and innovation in the very fast-moving adoption of AI.
This role is based in the United States, with a preference for candidates located in the Northeast, particularly the Boston or New York areas.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
ABOUT YOU
This role requires a minimum of three days per week working together in person, either at a client location or at your Bain home office.
Must have substantial hands-on experience in commercial software engineering and architecture
Must demonstrate a practical understanding of the AI technology landscape, including large language models, AI-assisted development tools, orchestration frameworks, and emerging standards such as Model Context Protocol (MCP) servers
Direct and recent experience applying AI across the software development lifecycle is preferred, including the use of generative AI and, ideally, agentic AI to improve product development, engineering productivity, platform capabilities, or business processes.
A strong data science, machine learning, or AI engineering background with clear applicability to these areas may also be considered
10+ years industry experience, including leadership roles for at least 3 years
Track record of leading and collaborating on strategic initiatives.
Strong team and business communication skills - can walk through approach with technical clients or explain complex concepts to non-technical people
Ability to collaborate with people at all levels and with multi-office/region teams
Must thrive in a fast-paced environment and be able to work independently
Travel required
Consulting experience and/or hands-on experience with technical due diligence processes an advantage
U.S. Compensation Information
Compensation for this role includes base salary, annual discretionary performance bonus, 401(k) plan with an annual employer contribution based on years of service and Bain's best in class benefits package (details listed below).
