Description

Job Title: Test Engineer - Aerospace Components and SystemsJob Description

This role focuses on testing and validating aerospace components, assemblies, and systems to ensure they meet engineering specifications, customer requirements, and industry standards. The Test Engineer develops, executes, and documents test procedures for flight-critical products such as ducting assemblies, hoses, and related components. The position involves functional, performance, environmental, and qualification testing to verify product integrity and compliance, while collaborating closely with Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing teams in a fast-paced aerospace manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute detailed test procedures in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Perform functional, environmental, and qualification testing on components, sub-assemblies, and finished aerospace products.
  • Set up and operate test equipment, data acquisition systems, and instrumentation to evaluate product performance.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and test requirements to ensure accurate and compliant test execution.
  • Collect, record, and analyze test data to determine conformance to specifications and requirements.
  • Prepare clear and comprehensive test reports and maintain accurate documentation of test results and activities.
  • Troubleshoot test setups, equipment issues, and product-related problems to ensure reliable and repeatable test results.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective action activities related to test failures or non-conformances.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing teams to align test requirements with production processes and design intent.
  • Assist in the development of new test methods, procedures, and fixtures to support product development and ongoing production.
  • Ensure all testing activities comply with internal procedures, safety requirements, and applicable customer standards.
  • Perform calibration checks and help maintain test equipment to ensure accuracy, reliability, and readiness for use.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the testing and quality functions as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties and projects as assigned by leadership to support program and organizational objectives.

Essential Skills

  • 3 to 5+ years of experience in testing, validation, or engineering within an aerospace or manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience performing functional, environmental, or qualification testing on aerospace components or similar products.
  • Ability to develop and execute test procedures based on engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Proficiency in setting up and operating test equipment, instrumentation, and data acquisition systems.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and test procedures.
  • Experience collecting, recording, and analyzing test data to assess conformance to requirements.
  • Demonstrated analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills in a test or engineering environment.
  • Experience supporting root cause analysis and corrective action processes related to test failures or non-conformances.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel and Word, for reporting and data analysis.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Production teams.
  • Capability to work in an ITAR-controlled environment, as required by specific program needs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline preferred.
  • Working knowledge of AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality systems and aerospace manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ANSI Y14.5 and related engineering documentation.
  • Knowledge of laboratory or production test environments, including pressure, flow, leak, or performance testing.
  • Experience with aerospace customer specifications and qualification testing requirements is a plus.
  • Background in composite layup and fabrication, including skins, insulation, and ducting, is highly valuable.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and process specifications to ensure parts and test setups meet aerospace requirements.
  • Experience with curing and composite processing techniques such as vacuum bagging, oven curing, and autoclave operation.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to ensuring products meet stringent aerospace quality and reliability standards.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, growth-oriented aerospace and defense environment with high-visibility programs.

Work Environment

This position is based on the manufacturing floor within the Quality organization and plays a key role in ensuring aerospace products meet customer, engineering, and regulatory requirements. The Test Engineer works closely with Quality Engineers, Manufacturing, Production, and other cross-functional teams to support testing and inspection of critical aerospace hardware. The environment is collaborative and fast-paced, with Quality, Engineering, and Operations partnering to solve problems, drive continuous improvement, and support high-visibility aerospace programs. The role typically operates on a first shift schedule, with start times around 5:30 AM or 6:30 AM for an 8-hour shift, depending on operational needs. The work involves regular interaction on the shop floor and in test areas, using test equipment, instrumentation, data acquisition systems, and other laboratory or production tools. Appropriate shop-floor attire and required personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn when working in production areas. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Simi Valley, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
