Service & Repair Technician – Welding Equipment
Position Summary
We are seeking an entry level Welding Equipment Service & Repair Technician to inspect, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair a wide range of welding equipment. The ideal candidate will have trouble-shooting skills, the aptitude to work with welding equipment, and a commitment to providing dependable service to customers. We will provide training, a welding background or experience servicing other types of machines is also applicable.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, service, repair, and maintain MIG, TIG, stick, plasma cutting, and multi-process welding equipment.
- Troubleshoot electrical, electronic, mechanical, and gas-related equipment issues.
- Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, testing, and equipment calibration.
- Identify defective components and determine appropriate repair or replacement solutions.
- Repair and replace cables, leads, connectors, switches, circuit boards, motors, regulators, cooling systems, and other components.
- Test repaired equipment to ensure safe and proper operation.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical service manuals.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, parts used, and service performed.
- Communicate professionally with customers regarding equipment problems, repair recommendations, and service requirements.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while following applicable safety procedures.
- Assist with installation, setup, and startup of new welding equipment when required.
- Stay current with new welding technologies, equipment, and manufacturer service procedures.
- Steam clean equipment as needed.
Qualifications
- Be coachable, willing to train individuals with mechanical aptitude and no experience or have a background in welding, below is the ideal candidate along with the necessary skill to learn
- Previous experience servicing or repairing welding equipment, industrial machinery, or related electrical equipment.
- Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting abilities.
- Working knowledge of welding processes and welding power sources.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and technical documentation.
- Basic computer skills for service documentation and equipment diagnostics.
- Ability to use hand tools, electrical test equipment, and diagnostic equipment safely.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple service requests.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation, if field service is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with major welding equipment manufacturers and their service procedures.
- Welding certifications or formal technical training.
- Experience with industrial automation, wire feeders, plasma cutters, or welding accessories.
- Electrical, electronics, HVAC, industrial maintenance, or similar technical background.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and move welding machines, equipment, and components.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in various positions for extended periods.
- Ability to work around welding fumes, noise, heat, and industrial environments while using appropriate PPE.
