Job Summary
Responsible for the operation and maintenance of city parks, golf courses and public spaces. Work includes operation and maintenance of facilities; including parks, golf courses, cemeteries, trails and the grounds of various public facilities, medians and streetscapes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive.
- Performs skills associated with accepted maintenance practices including but not limited to municipal parks, golf courses and cemeteries.
- Cleans and repairs grounds, golf courses, restrooms, facilities, playgrounds, shelters, etc.
- Maintains landscape areas including paver/brick repairs, hard/soft surface trails, cleaning and litter control; maintains, repairs, and tests water features.
- Prepares and renovates golf courses, playing fields and/or courts for recreational use.
- Performs snow removal duties.
- Safely operates and maintains medium to heavy-duty motor vehicles and specialized industry-related equipment.
- Installs, maintains, and repairs irrigation and pumping systems.
- Provides direction and supervision to hourly and contractual employees.
- Coordinates activities with volunteer groups and community partnerships.
- Responsible for adhering to, and being an example of, following proper safety rules and regulations.
- Manages a flexible work schedule including hours of the day, weekends, holidays, and participates in on call rotation, if applicable.
- Utilizes Integrated Pest Management approach and applies pesticide, herbicide and fertilizer as appropriate.
- Availability to assist with special events, rentals and special projects as required.
- Performs technical horticulture by designing, installing and maintaining flowers, containers, and planting beds containing trees, shrubs and perennials.
