Position: Technician, General Maintenance

Primary Purpose:

Perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance tasks to ensure district facilities and equipment are maintained in a safe, functional, and efficient manner. Assist with repairs, preventative maintenance, and special projects districtwide inside and out while supporting the operational needs of the district.

Education/Certification:

  • GED/High School Diploma, preferred
  • Valid Texas Driver's License; must be insurable by district''s insurance carrier

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of general maintenance and repair practices
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools and maintenance equipment
  • Ability to read and follow work order, instructions, and safety procedures
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Effective communication and customer service skills

Experience:

  • Four years experience in general maintenance, construction, building trades or related field (preferred)

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Perform general maintenance tasks on buildings and equipment
  • Respond to maintenance work orders in a timely and professional manner
  • Assist with moving furniture, equipment, and materials as needed
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles in a safe and operational condition
  • Identify and report facility deficiencies, safety concerns and maintenance needs
  • Assist with setup and breakdown of district events and activities
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed through the district work order system, Brightly
  • Follow all district safety procedures and regulations
  • Work cooperatively with campus and department staff to ensure quality customer service
  • Provide support for special projects and districtwide maintenance initiatives.
  • Assist with the maintenance, upkeep, repairs and operation needs of the district Ag Barn
  • Maintain, repair and install of walls, floor tile, cove base, ceramic tile, paneling, painting and all other materials
  • Install, repair, replace and adjust items of building hardware such as hinges, hasps, locks, hydraulic door openers and closers
  • Maintain and repair existing structures as assigned
  • Maintain a clean, safe and well-organized environment
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the General Maintenance Foreman and Director of Maintenance.

Tools/Equipment Used: Small hand tools, power tools, and measuring tools; light truck or van

Posture: Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion: Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching; frequent driving

Lifting: Heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over) on a daily basis

Environment: Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces; frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials, noise, vibration, and electrical hazards; work around machinery with moving parts; may work alone; regularly work irregular hours; occasional prolonged hours; frequent districtwide travel

Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress, ability to communicate effectively (verbal)

Salary Information:

Pay Grade: Manual Trades Pay Grade 3, 250 Days

Min: $14.10/hour

Mid: $16.94/hour

Salary based on job-related experience.

Other Information:

The district contributes $400/monthly to the cost of "employee-only" health insurance which is $175/monthly greater than the state required amount of $225/monthly.
