Position Summary

Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a full-time Technician B to join the Yamashita Laboratory at the Aaron Diamond AIDS Research Center. Research in our laboratory focuses on the molecular mechanisms of HIV-1 replication, viral evolution, antiviral resistance, and virus-host interactions. We are seeking a highly motivated individual who is interested in pursuing a career in medicine and/or biomedical research. The successful candidate will report directly to the Principal Investigator.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Principal Investigator and postdoctoral researchers with laboratory research.
  • Perform virology, molecular biology, and cell-based assays.
  • Process blood specimens and isolate cells for experimental use.
  • Record experimental results and maintain accurate laboratory databases.
  • Prepare and operate laboratory equipment according to established protocols.
  • Perform other related duties necessary to support the laboratory, research projects, and day-to-day operations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology, chemistry, or a related life science, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least six months of experience in a research laboratory.
  • Prior experience in virology, molecular biology, cell culture, or related laboratory techniques is highly desirable.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to work in an organized manner and comply with all laboratory safety policies and procedures.
  • The selected candidate will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening before a final offer of employment.
  • Must successfully complete compliance and systems training requirements.
