Technical Writer Intern

Basic Qualifications :

Candidates should demonstrate a thorough understanding of business principles. Administrative Interns must be actively enrolled in an accredited degree program with a preference in a related field.

 

Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

 

Responsibilities for this Position:

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND TASKS:

Apply your classroom-learned skills to a program supporting the defense of our country. GDMS has an immediate opening for an Administration Intern (Technical Writing focus) to join our team. The position provides an opportunity to enhance the performance and profitability of an organization that supports some of our nation's fundamental defense services. 

 

The selected candidate will work with collaborative teams on various projects of the GDMS organization and its clients. JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

• Write and edit technical documentation in various formats (e.g., .doc, .PDF, HTML, and XML/SGML-tagged IETMs).
• Able to comply with military specifications and technical documentation requirements.
• Maintain established technical documentation lifecycle, to include review cycles and hardware and/or software update cycles.
• Create supporting graphics (e.g., functional block diagrams) in various formats (e.g., .JPEG, .PNG, etc.) to support documentation functional descriptions and procedures.
• Perform quality assurance to ensure technical and grammatical accuracy of documentation.
• Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) during development and editing to ensure technical accuracy of documentation.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

• Preferred English major.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office products (including, but not limited to: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams).
• Ability to research unfamiliar technology well enough to describe and summarize for an end-user; must be comfortable asking questions and collaborating with Subject Matter Experts.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Meticulous attention to detail.

 

OPTIONAL/PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

• Experience using an XML editor (e.g., XMLSpy, Arbortext).
• Familiarity with basic graphic design principles.
• Understanding of a repository-based content management system (e.g., TortoiseSVN).

WORKPLACE OPTIONS:

• This position is on-site 100%.  While on-site, you will be a part of the Manassas, VA facility.

   

 

Salary Note: This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled. Combined Salary Range: USD $27.50 - USD $27.50 /Hr. Company Overview:
