Job Description:

Technical Writer / Training Content Developer Enterprise Security Command Center (ESCC)

Position Overview
The Technical Writer / Training Content Developer will support the Enterprise Security Command Center (ESCC), **** 24/7 physical security operations center, by developing, maintaining, and enhancing technical documentation, operating procedures, job aids, and training materials used within a security-focused operational environment.

This role will work closely with ESCC subject matter experts, operators, leadership, and other stakeholders to understand operational processes and translate complex technical and procedural information into clear, accurate, practical content. The ideal candidate combines strong technical writing skills with experience developing training materials for operational or technical audiences.

ESCC Environment
The ESCC operates within a physical security-focused environment responsible for enterprise-wide monitoring, situational awareness, information reporting, and physical security support.

Its responsibilities include centralized monitoring associated with physical access control, video monitoring, gate and door activity, badge activity, intrusion detection, and other facility security conditions. The ESCC also serves as a coordination point for information related to ongoing or emerging security incidents.

Because documentation may support real-time operational activities, this position requires an ability to create materials that are clear, accurate, concise, easy to navigate, and usable in an operational environment.
Content focuses on physical security systems, alarm response, and operator procedures.

Key Responsibilities
Develop, write, edit, and maintain ESCC technical and operational documentation, including:
Standard operating procedures (SOPs)

Work instructions
Process and procedure manuals
Job aids and quick-reference guides
Training guides and facilitator materials
Technical reference materials
Process flow documentation
Administrative and operational communications
Partner with ESCC subject matter experts and operational personnel to understand workflows, technologies, responsibilities, and procedures and translate that information into clear, usable documentation.
Observe and study operational activities to understand how work is performed and accurately document processes, decision points, system interactions, and required actions.
Review existing procedures, system documentation, diagrams, flowcharts, specifications, screenshots, reference materials, and other technical information to build or update documentation.
Develop training content that supports employee onboarding, role-specific training, process changes, system changes, and ongoing knowledge reinforcement.
Convert complex technical or security-related concepts into concise, audience-appropriate learning materials.
Organize documentation and training content according to established standards for clarity, consistency, terminology, format, and usability.
Review existing materials and recommend improvements to content, structure, format, presentation, and overall effectiveness.
Collaborate with subject matter experts to validate technical accuracy before materials are finalized or distributed.
Create or incorporate screenshots, diagrams, process flows, charts, and other visual elements that improve understanding of technical or operational processes.
Maintain documentation and revision history to help ensure materials remain current as processes, systems, or operating requirements change.
Support the organization, publication, and distribution of approved training and technical materials.
Assist with developing presentations, briefings, and other communications supporting ESCC operational or training needs.

Required Qualifications
Demonstrated experience in technical writing, instructional content development, training development, or a related field.
Strong written communication, editing, proofreading, and information-organizing skills.
Experience converting technical or complex subject matter into clear instructions for end users.
Ability to interview and collaborate with technical and operational subject matter experts.
Experience developing SOPs, work instructions, user guides, job aids, training materials, or comparable documentation.
Ability to interpret process flows, technical documentation, diagrams, screenshots, system information, and operational procedures.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and consistency.
Ability to manage multiple documents, revisions, and priorities.
Proficiency with standard business productivity and document-authoring tools.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting a command center, operations center, security operations, utility, emergency management, critical infrastructure, industrial, or similarly procedure-driven environment.
Experience creating both operating proceedure documentation and training/learning content.
Experience designing instructor-led, virtual, or self-directed training materials.
Experience creating process maps, workflow diagrams, quick-reference guides, and visually oriented job aids.
Familiarity with document control, version management, or structured review and approval processes.
Experience developing documentation or training for systems used in monitoring, incident management, physical security, access control, or operational response.

Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who enjoys learning complex processes and turning them into content that people can immediately understand and use. They should be comfortable working directly with operational experts, asking detailed questions, observing how work is performed, identifying gaps or ambiguity in existing documentation, and organizing information into consistent procedures and training materials.

Success in this role requires a balance of technical writing discipline, instructional thinking, attention to detail, and an understanding of how documentation is used in a fast-moving operational environment. The successful candidate must be self-motivated and able to be self-directed.
