Technical Skills Instructor - Mechanical 1

The candidate should be a subject matter expert in heavy equipment operations, including pre-operational checks and the safe operation of forklifts, skid steers, excavators, backhoes, water trucks, aerial lifts, lulls, tugs, and tractors used in power generation work. Candidates should have basic computer skills and be comfortable using email, scanning documents, and delivering both digital and in-person classroom instruction using PowerPoint presentations and other visual training materials.

Johnson Service Group (JSG) is a nationally recognized professional staffing and recruiting firm that is currently looking for a degreed Mechanical Technical Skills Instructor, to conduct heavy equipment training across Alabama and Georgia. Candidates must provide their own transportation. This is a contract position.


GENERAL SUMMARY


Candidates should have basic computer skills and be comfortable using email, scanning documents, and delivering both digital and in-person classroom instruction using PowerPoint presentations and other visual training materials.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
 

• The candidate will provide classroom and hands-on skills instruction for craft personnel at generating plants throughout the Georgia and Alabama footprint.
• The candidate should be a subject matter expert in heavy equipment operations, including pre-operational checks and the safe operation of forklifts, skid steers, excavators, backhoes, water trucks, aerial lifts, lulls, tugs, and tractors used in power generation work.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
 

• Additional expertise in slings and rigging is preferred, along with extensive experience operating overhead and gantry cranes and hoists.
• This position requires day-trip and overnight travel, approximately 50% of the time, for several days to a week at a time.
• Because this role covers the Georgia and Alabama service area, candidates must provide their own dependable transportation.
• Applicants must have official training certifications and/or proven relevant work experience in the subject field to be considered.
• Candidates must be able to work in hot and cold environments and tolerate weather conditions such as wind and rain.
• This is a contract position, so work will be on an as needed basis.

JOB DUTIES
 

• Deliver foundational training in mechanical concepts and techniques.
• Develop instructional materials, including lesson plans, presentations, and hands-on exercises.
• Assist in assessing the learning progress of students and providing constructive feedback.
• Provide basic technical support and guidance to students during practical exercises.
• Collaborate with senior instructors to optimize training programs and materials.
• Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging technologies.

QUALIFICATIONS
 

• A Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Basic knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
• Patience and the ability to convey complex technical information in a clear and understandable manner.
• Eagerness to learn and adapt to the educational environment.

This position may require some bending, lifting, climbing, prolonged sitting, prolonged walking, walking on gravel or crawling when necessary.
