JOB TITLE: Technical Program Manager - Digital Accessibility
LOCATION: Remote
DURATION: Through 3/29/26
RATE RANGE: $65-$70/hr

POSITION SUMMARY:
We are looking for a Digital Accessibility Specialist who will act as a technical program manager with a focus on digital accessibility. You will drive accessibility initiatives across various products, initially with a narrow scope for a 6-month contract, with potential for expansion into a long-term role. Your role is both strategic and hands-on, requiring you to program manage initiatives for a large organization and also perform hands-on quality assurance. You will influence and get things done from a program management and quality perspective, which may include hands-on testing when needed. You must be a skilled diplomat and educator, capable of fostering positive relationships and driving change.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Program Management & Coordination: Drive the full lifecycle of accessibility testing, from initial triaging of issues to final delivery. This includes working with engineering managers to understand the scope and ensure they are committed to delivery.
  • Influencing & Communication: Serve as the primary liaison between engineering, product, and legal teams to ensure defects are prioritized and acted upon. You will have the authority to influence engineering managers and ensure prioritization of defects.
  • Technical Expertise & Quality Assurance: Act as a subject matter expert on digital accessibility. This includes conducting hands-on testing, performing spot checks or heuristic reviews of coded deliverables, and using assistive technologies. You will also visually conduct accessibility reviews of static designs and prototypes and collaborate with engineers to identify, prioritize, and document defects.
  • Process & Education: Create clear standards, methods, and procedures for inspecting, testing, and evaluating the usability of products. You will expand digital accessibility knowledge and practices by providing training and educating project teams on end-to-end processes.
  • Strategic Planning: Help product teams integrate accessibility into every phase of the product development lifecycle. You will assist in creating and maintaining Accessibility Conformance Reports for key products, following a Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT).

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Mobile and Web Experience: Extensive experience in digital accessibility for both web applications and native mobile applications (iOS/Android).
  • Digital Accessibility Expertise: Deep knowledge of WCAG 2.1, Section 508, and preparing Accessibility Conformance Reports. 5+ years of experience with digital accessibility standards and guidelines. Proficient in using screen readers and automated testing tools to check and verify accessibility fixes.
  • Quality & Hands-on Testing: Proven ability to perform hands-on testing and quality assurance, including conducting spot checks, and using various assistive technologies.
  • Technical Program Management: Proven experience in a role like a technical program manager with an accessibility and quality focus. This includes the ability to triage defects, work with engineering managers, and ensure delivery.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Experience partnering with various user experience disciplines, including Research, Design, and Engineering. You should be a strong communicator who can influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Attention to Detail: Able to expertly inspect mobile and web products for proper function and compatibility with assistive technologies. Able to clearly document both successes and deficiencies.
  • Personal Qualities: A skilled diplomat, a strong communicator and a clear presenter. Willing to do on-the-ground work, rather thanlead or manage from a distance. Experience working with design teams and a solid understanding of the product design process.
  • Certifications: No certification required, but IAAP certifications can be shared as part of evidence toward overall digital accessibility expertise. Specifically, the following two certifications: Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) and Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS).
