Contract: 12-month W2 contract
Pay: $170–$185/hour depending on experience

Russell Tobin is partnering with a leading AI research and technology company to hire a highly technical instructor to support live, instructor-led technical onboarding programs.

This role is ideal for someone who is technical first and an educator second — a software engineer, architect, technical product professional, solutions engineer, developer advocate, or similar builder who has hands-on experience developing software and also excels at teaching technical concepts to others.

You will deliver live technical sessions across multiple learning paths, facilitate hands-on labs, troubleshoot alongside learners, and create an engaging classroom experience for technical audiences.

Curriculum owners will own the core content. Your responsibility will be to deeply understand the material, prepare and dry-run sessions, deliver it effectively, and adapt your teaching based on learner needs.

What You’ll Do

  • Deliver live, in-person and hybrid technical training across developer, architecture, administration, and related technical learning paths
  • Teach API, AI, developer-tooling, and software-product concepts to technical audiences
  • Lead hands-on labs and help learners troubleshoot technical issues in real time
  • Explain complex engineering concepts in a clear, approachable way without losing technical depth
  • Partner with curriculum owners and subject-matter experts to prepare and dry-run sessions ahead of cohorts
  • Adapt pacing, explanations, and examples based on learner understanding
  • Collect learner feedback and identify recurring areas of confusion or friction
  • Provide actionable feedback to curriculum and program owners
  • Support live cohort operations and classroom delivery
  • Deliver training regularly in person in San Francisco

What We’re Looking For

  • Hands-on technical experience building software, technical products, APIs, developer tools, or similar solutions
  • Prior experience as a software engineer, solutions architect, technical product manager, solutions engineer, developer advocate, technical instructor, or comparable technical role
  • Strong understanding of software-development concepts and developer workflows
  • Experience working with APIs, developer tooling, and modern software products
  • Ability to independently understand and troubleshoot technical labs
  • Strong developer empathy and an ability to anticipate where technical learners may struggle
  • Demonstrated experience presenting, teaching, facilitating, or speaking to groups
  • Exceptional verbal communication and ability to clearly explain both technical solutions and their business or user impact
  • Comfortable leading a classroom and adjusting delivery in real time
  • Based in or able to regularly work onsite in San Francisco

Strong Plus

  • Hands-on experience with AI, LLMs, agents, or AI developer products
  • Computer Science or related technical degree
  • Prior technical training or developer-education experience
  • Developer Relations, Developer Advocacy, or technical community experience
  • University teaching, TA, bootcamp instruction, workshops, conference speaking, or technical presentations
  • Public examples of technical communication such as conference talks, webinars, podcasts, videos, tutorials, or technical content
  • Experience teaching engineers, architects, developers, solutions teams, or other highly technical audiences

The Profile

The strongest candidates will be people who have built technology themselves and can also teach it exceptionally well.

You should be equally comfortable explaining why an API call is failing, walking a learner through a hands-on exercise, and standing in front of a room delivering technical instruction.
