Auburn School District JOB TITLE: Technical Director REPORTS TO: Coordinator of the Performing Arts Center(s) UNIT CLASSIFICATION: Professional-Technical Job Summary: In cooperation with the Managing Director, the Technical Director will operate, maintain and assume responsibility
for
all
performance
technology
aspects
of
the
Auburn
Performing
Arts
Center
(APAC),
Auburn
Riverside
Theatre
(ART),
or
Theatre
at
Auburn
Mountainview
(TAM.)
Provide
all
groups
using
the
theatre(s)
with
the
technical
expertise
required
to
solve
any/all
production
problems
related
to
sets,
scenery,
props,
special
FX,
lighting,
sound,
fly
rail,
stage
rigging,
and
all
other
theatre
equipment.
Maintain
appropriate
physical
condition
and
health
status
necessary
to
perform
duties
and
responsibilities
as
assigned.
Maintain
grooming
and
attire
appropriate
to
district
standards;
represent
district
in
a
professional
and
business-like
manner.
Duties and responsibilities:
Proficient
working
knowledge
of
production
systems,
including
operation
and
design
of
stage
lighting,
audio,
stage
rigging,
fly
rail,
visual
and
light
systems,
other
related
equipment,
and
practical
set
construction
and
removal
techniques.
Maintain
proper
stage,
off-stage,
storage,
catwalk,
scenery
areas
and
inventories
of
supplies
and
equipment
in
a
clean
and
orderly
manner;
recommend
and
oversee
repair
of
equipment
and
facility;
order
parts
and
services
and
research
new
equipment
purchases
when
needed.
Assist
Managing
Director
by
communicating
and
working
closely
with
prospective
clients
in
securing,
reviewing,
and
approving
technical
riders
and
all
other
pertinent
information
regarding
their
proposed
show.
Actively
assist
and
support
the
instructor
of
the
high
school
Theatre
Production
class
in
developing
and
implementing
a
viable
program
to
train
students
to
facilitate
their
knowledge
of
all
elements
of
technical
theatre;
Liaison
with
Theatre
Arts
teacher
on
all
production
issues
related
to
Drama
shows.
Responsible
for
instructing,
coordinating,
and
supervising
students
and
all
payroll
technicians
in
proper
stagecraft
techniques,
use
of
equipment,
and
developing
professional
work
ethics
and
work
place
etiquette.
Coordinate
the
monthly
scheduling
of
student,
volunteer,
and
adult
crews
needed
to
provide
sufficient
technical
assistance
for
all
theatre
events.
Make
appropriate
recommendations
regarding
selection
of
these
individuals
to
Managing
Director.
Adhere
to
all
Child
Labor
Laws.
Ensure
proper
preparation
and
a
safe
environment
in
the
theatre
for
audiences,
performers,
and
staff,
by
complying
with
all
laws,
district
safety
rules
and
regulations,
and
maintaining
the
requirements
necessary
for
the
use
of
all
equipment
in
the
theatre.
Assist
with
the
maintenance
and
supervision
of
building
security.
Establish
and
post
safety
requirements
necessary
for
the
use
of
equipment
in
the
theatre.
Obtain
and
maintain
all
licenses
and
certificates
necessary
to
accomplish
assigned
duties
and
responsibilities.
Perform
other
related
duties
and
responsibilities
as
assigned
by
the
Managing
Director
as
the
needs
of
the
venue
change.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Degree
in
some
form
of
Technical
Theatre
with
emphasis
on
technical
direction/theatrical
design-and/or
minimum
3
years
of
related
experience
and/or
training
in
all
aspects
of
technical
performing
arts
operations
with
previous
supervisory/management
experience
for
a
school
district
or
other
professional
theatre.
Experience
with
industry
best
practices
in
production
safety
and
security.
General
familiarity
with
Apple
IOS
systems,
Windows
computers
and
Microsoft
Office
products,
including
database,
Internet,
spreadsheet
and
word
processing
software.
Experience
with
Computer
Aided
Drawing
Programs
(i.e.
Visio
and
Vectorworks),
multimedia
playback
software
(i.e.
QLab,
SFX,
MultiPlay,
etc.)
and
Sound
Production
Software
(i.e.
Nuendo,
ProTools,
etc.)
a
plus.
A
strong
understanding
of
digital
audio
networking
is
required,
specifically
Dante.
Level
2
certification
or
above
a
plus.
Ability
to
read
and
interpret
a
variety
of
directives
furnished
in
written,
oral,
or
diagram
form
including
safety
rules,
operating
and
maintenance
instructions,
and
procedure
manuals.
Excellent
interpersonal

and
the
ability
to
work
with

staff,
