Technical Designer – Women’s Activewear
Our client is a fast-growing NYC-based wholesale company specializing in women’s activewear, athleisure, and lounge. They partner with well-known brands and sell to leading off-price retailers and department stores nationwide. The team is focused on trend-right product, strong retail partnerships, and speed to market.
The Role:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Technical Designer with strong apparel construction knowledge and hands-on experience in activewear. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and can manage the technical development process from concept through production.
Responsibilities:
Create and maintain detailed tech packs including specs, construction details, and grading
Evaluate fit, balance, and construction; lead fittings and communicate corrections
Collaborate closely with design and production teams to ensure design intent is executed
Review samples, measure garments, and provide clear fit comments to factories
Ensure consistency in fit and sizing across categories
Troubleshoot construction and production issues with overseas vendors
Track development timelines and ensure deadlines are met
Maintain accurate records of specs, fit history, and approvals
Support design team with CAD updates and technical input as needed
Qualifications:
4+ years of experience in technical design (activewear experience strongly preferred)
Strong knowledge of garment construction, patternmaking, grading, and fit
Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator; PLM experience is a plus
Ability to read and create detailed tech packs and spec sheets
Strong communication skills for working with cross-functional teams and factories
Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects
Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design, Technical Design, or related field
