Summary: 
 
The Technical Communicator's primary responsibility is to serve as the point of contact for resolving all product issues and commercial and technical matters between Caterpillar and the dealership for the Equipment and Power Systems Division. Technical Communicators will also control the technical information within the dealership, including the distribution of electronic service publications and letters. This person will also assist dealership and customer personnel with equipment diagnostics and troubleshooting that may include occasional on-site assistance. Occasional travel is required to attend Cat technical seminars and training sessions. In addition to these functions, the communicator may have additional responsibilities, such as warranty processing or product application engineering (including fabrication, customization, etc.). Travel will be required during the training and orientation period. 
 
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Controls the technical information within the dealership, including the distribution of electronic service publications and letters. 
  • Assist dealership and customer personnel with equipment diagnostics and troubleshooting.
  • Performs occasional on-site assistance to field serviceman in trouble-shooting situations. 
  • Completes warranty processing or product application engineering (fabrication, customizing, etc.).
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Skills and Qualifications:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required. 
  • Must have ten or more years of experience with Caterpillar Heavy Equipment as a service technician, in either the shop or the field. Similar experience in place okay.
  • Must have a basic understanding of Caterpillar and Ohio CAT policies and claim procedures.
  • Completion of basic courses in engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems is required.
  • Should be able to read and explain system operations and schematics as used in Caterpillar service manuals.  
  • Excellent computer, mechanical, multi-tasking, organization, and verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Must be customer-oriented, able to learn additional technical material, organized, detail-oriented, and able to maintain excellent working relationships with Caterpillar personnel.
