Position Title: Data Governance Analyst

Location: Vienna, VA - Remote or Hybrid (3 days onsite per week)

Clearance Requirements: None specified

Position Status: Contract

Pay Rate: $40.00-$45.00/hour

Position Description

Seneca Resources is seeking a Data Governance Analyst to support enterprise data governance initiatives focused on data lifecycle management, secure data deletion, governance controls, metadata management, and risk reduction.

The ideal candidate combines strong data analysis, SQL, communication, and project management skills with hands-on experience working in modern Azure data environments. This role will collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to develop and implement effective data governance processes, validate controls, and maintain accurate data inventories across enterprise data platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the execution of Enterprise Data Governance initiatives related to secure, compliant, and permanent data deletion.

  • Collaborate with business, data, security, and technology stakeholders to develop and implement data deletion controls, policies, and processes aligned with established governance frameworks.

  • Analyze business and technical requirements and translate them into actionable data governance solutions.

  • Develop and execute test plans and validation procedures to confirm data governance controls are implemented effectively.

  • Identify control gaps, potential risks, and emerging organizational requirements, and recommend appropriate remediation strategies.

  • Perform dataset discovery, data profiling, and data inventory activities across enterprise Data Lake environments.

  • Maintain and improve metadata, data inventories, and governance documentation to support data lifecycle management.

  • Use advanced SQL and Python/PySpark to analyze datasets, validate data, and support governance and control-testing activities.

  • Work with Azure-based data platforms to investigate data structures, pipelines, storage, and processing environments.

  • Track project activities, dependencies, deliverables, and issues while communicating status and risks to stakeholders.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of data governance, data quality, compliance, and data lifecycle management processes.

Required Skills/Education

  • 1-5 years of experience in Data Governance, Data Analysis, Data Management, Business Analysis, or a related technical discipline.

  • Strong data analysis and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and business teams.

  • Experience with project management, task coordination, requirements gathering, or delivery tracking.

  • Hands-on experience with:

  • Databricks

  • Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS)

  • Delta Lake

  • Azure Data Factory (ADF)

  • Advanced SQL

  • Python

  • PySpark

  • Experience working with data lakes, datasets, metadata, data discovery, or data inventories.

  • Understanding of data governance frameworks, data lifecycle management, data retention, data deletion, or data controls.

  • Ability to develop and execute test plans and validate technical controls.

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business, or a related field is preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting enterprise data governance or data compliance programs.

  • Knowledge of data privacy, data retention, secure data deletion, and regulatory controls.

  • Experience working in Azure cloud data environments.

  • Familiarity with data governance tools, metadata management, data cataloging, or data quality processes.

  • Experience working in Agile or structured project environments.
