    Position Information

    Job Title Tech Help Student Assistant Fall 2026-Spring 2027 Department The Help Center Job Description/Duties

    Student staff duties include but are not limited to providing telephone and occasionally face-to-face customer service to our campus community including students, faculty, and staff.

    Some of the daily tasks include:

    • troubleshooting myRedDragon access
    • assisting with password resets
    • configuring mobile devices to the SUNY Cortland network
    • assisting with Microsoft Office applications
    • troubleshooting general hardware and software issues
    • gathering the required information to escalate any ticket that the student is not able to resolve on their own

    Days/Hours Needed

    Monday to Thursday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

    Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

    Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

    Sunday Noon to 8 p.m.

    • All tech students are required to attend a full day training session prior to the start of the fall semester, typically the Friday before classes begin
    • A minimum availability of 10 hours per week is required

    Required Qualifications

    • Must be a current SUNY Cortland student
    • Eagerness to provide customers with technology help
    • Willingness to learn new technologies
    • Good written and verbal communications skills
    • Experience troubleshooting issues on PCs or Apple computers
    • Experience troubleshooting issues on smartphones

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience using SUNY Cortland web-based applications (i.e., Outlook Web Access email, Microsoft Office 365, Brightspace, Blackboard, and myRedDragon)
    • Intermediate or advanced knowledge of PC and/or Apple Computers
    • Intermediate or advanced knowledge of iPhone (iOS), Android, and/or other smart phones/tablets
    • Experience working with multiple web browsers
    • Experience with troubleshooting network connectivity issues
    • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
