    Description

    At Superior Industries the Machine Shop Team Lead oversees daily operations, machining processes, and shop floor personnel. This role balances direct hands-on operational support with team coordination, ensuring safety compliance, machining precision, and continuous throughput.

    Location: Belen, NM | 80 Don Luis Trujillo Blvd

    Schedule: Monday through Friday, 6:30am to 5:00pm

    Key Responsibilities

    • People & Development: Conduct daily safety huddles, manage shift scheduling, and drive operator training (cross-training on CNC/manual equipment, blueprint reading, and precision measurement tools). Conduct performance evaluations and actively coach team members.
    • Process & Quality: Oversee daily setup, operation, and maintenance of machining equipment. Ensure strict adherence to quality control standards, first-piece inspections, and engineering prints. Troubleshoot machining/tooling issues as they arise.
    • Planning & Execution: Daily coordination of labor, raw materials, and tooling to meet production schedules. Maintain dynamic workflow visual boards and ensure timely job staging.
    • Continuous Improvement: Lead 5S initiatives, identify machining bottlenecks, reduce scrap rates, and implement Lean manufacturing practices.
    • Compliance & Safety: Enforce PPE usage, machine guarding protocols, and preventative maintenance schedules. Perform root-cause analysis on safety near-misses or quality defects.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications & Competencies

    • Technical Experience: 3+ years of hands-on machining experience preferred, but not required (CNC mills/lathes, manual machines, reading G-code/blueprints). Prior manufacturing experience within a Superior facility preferred, but not mandatory.
    • Leadership Ability: Proven track record of managing and coaching teams through high-pressure production environments with a stewardship mindset.
    • Execution & Problem Solving: Demonstrated history of swift execution, root-cause troubleshooting, and scrap reduction.
    • Tooling & Precision: Familiarity with precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, CMM) and basic tooling management.
