Position Summary:

The Teacher-Reading Specialist will provide personalized coaching, professional development, and resources to enhance teachers' instructional practices, classroom culture, management strategies, and content knowledge with the goal of ensuring academic proficiency for all students and closing achievement gaps-particularly for multilingual learners. The Reading Specialist collaborates with school leadership to plan, implement, and assess school-wide literacy initiatives aligned with the School Improvement Plan. The Reading Specialist also supports instructional planning and professional learning through classroom modeling, co-teaching, and facilitation of collaborative, data-driven instruction.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide job-embedded, standards-aligned professional development to teachers
  • Model high-impact literacy instruction and co-teach lessons with classroom teachers
  • Facilitate weekly common planning sessions with a focus on curriculum, instruction, and student outcomes
  • Support the use of student achievement data to inform planning and instruction at classroom and school levels
  • Assist teachers in unpacking standards, developing pacing guides, and aligning assessments
  • Promote and provide resources that support rigorous, culturally relevant instruction
  • Contribute to vertical alignment efforts and cross-grade collaboration in literacy
  • Host open classrooms and facilitate peer-to-peer learning and discourse
  • Help implement new learning systems, data platforms, and digital tools
  • Provide in-field support to teachers including coaching cycles and follow-up observations
  • Support students directly through small group instruction and academic interventions
  • Provide teacher coverage or additional instructional support as needed
  • Collaborate with administration to monitor progress on literacy goals and initiatives

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Deep understanding of literacy instruction and the science of reading
  • Strong knowledge of Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks
  • Expertise in analyzing and using data to drive instructional decisions
  • Proven ability to lead professional development and coaching cycles
  • Effective facilitation of team meetings and collaborative planning sessions
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills
  • Commitment to educational equity and supporting diverse learners
  • Ability to model lessons, co-teach, and provide actionable feedback
  • Capacity to support implementation of digital tools and learning platforms

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Valid Massachusetts teaching license
  • Reading Specialist license preferred
  • SEI Endorsement or dual certification in ESL
  • Master's Degree in Education or a related field
  • Minimum of five years of successful K-12 classroom teaching experience
  • Prior experience as an instructional coach, mentor teacher, or school leader preferred

Pay Range

  • $61,788 - $94,614
