Description:

The District is seeking a qualified Teacher of Special Assignment (TOSA) to provide instructional continuity by serving as a permanent substitute teacher across assigned schools and grade levels. The TOSA is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction during teacher absences, maintaining positive learning environments, and supporting the educational program through a variety of instructional and school-based assignments.

In addition to classroom coverage, the TOSA may assist with student interventions, curriculum support, professional learning activities, and other instructional duties as assigned. The ideal candidate is flexible, collaborative, and able to adapt quickly to varying classroom environments while maintaining high expectations for student learning. All responsibilities must be carried out in accordance with district policies and state and federal requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL)
  • Bachelor's degree in Education or related field
  • Appropriate Illinois teaching endorsement(s)
  • Previous classroom teaching experience preferred
  • Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to adapt to changing assignments and instructional settings

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the teacher of record during the absence of a classroom teacher.
  • Deliver instruction using lesson plans provided by the classroom teacher and adapt instruction as needed to support student learning.
  • Establish and maintain a safe, positive, and productive classroom environment.
  • Implement effective classroom management strategies consistent with district expectations.
  • Support students' academic, social, and emotional growth.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, student behavior, and instructional activities as required.
  • Collaborate with administrators, teachers, and support staff to ensure continuity of instruction.
  • Assist with student interventions, small-group instruction, curriculum development, professional learning, or other instructional initiatives as assigned.
  • Supervise students in accordance with district policies during instructional and non-instructional times.
  • Follow all district procedures, school rules, and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or District Administrator.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of instructional best practices and effective teaching strategies.
  • Ability to quickly establish positive relationships with students and staff.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a school setting.
  • Demonstrates flexibility, professionalism, and sound judgment in a variety of educational environments.
  • Commitment to supporting student achievement and maintaining instructional continuity.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to read and communicate effectively with employees of the District.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions provided in written, diagram, or oral form.
  • Work involves walking, talking, hearing, using hands to handle, feel or operate objects or controls, and reaching with hands and arms.
  • Vision abilities required include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • May be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 20 pounds.

Salary and Benefits:

Salary and benefits are based on the negotiated teacher contract for the 2026-2027 school year.
