ROLE DESCRIPTION

The Grades 4-6 Science Teacher will facilitate learning for Ignite Community Schools students in order

to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. The teacher enables and

works with parents and students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

They provide leadership, motivation, and rigorous science education for all students in grades 4

through 6, fostering curiosity, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of scientific inquiry.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Instructional Delivery & Planning

  • Prepare effective lessons, instruct, and motivate students in Grades 4-6 Science utilizing

evidence-based methods of instruction aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills

(TEKS) for science.

  • Assign lessons and correct classwork and homework in a timely manner.
  • Administer formative and summative assessments to evaluate student progress, record results,

and issue reports informing parents of progress.

  • Provide academic interventions for struggling students.
  • Maintain student grades, classroom calendar, and student-parent communication via the

school's online grading and communication tool.

Classroom Culture & Management

  • Maintain discipline in the classroom.
  • Maintain a classroom that is conducive to learning, safe, attractive, and stimulates a spirit of

inquiry.

  • Set a good housekeeping example in the classroom and encourage students to follow this

example.

  • Inspire, praise, and correct students with consistency, care, and interest to encourage academic

success and promote character development.

Family & Community Engagement

  • Regularly communicate with students and parents to discuss student progress - positive and

negative.

  • Actively participate in marketing and student recruiting activities as necessary.
  • Perform duties such as sponsoring one or more activities or student organizations, assisting

students in selecting courses of study, and counseling students in adjustment and academic

problems.

Professional Responsibilities & Collaboration

  • Participate in required faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher

training workshops.

  • Work closely with Special Education and 504 staff to ensure student accommodations are

implemented with fidelity in the science classroom.

  • Read and comply with the RES Employee Handbook, the RES Student-Parent Handbook, the

Campus Handbook, and other RES manuals and procedures documents.

  • Perform special projects during and after school hours, and other duties as assigned (after-

school hours may include, but are not limited to, tutoring, morning and afternoon student drop-

off and pick-up duty, and award ceremonies).

  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Certification

Must meet one of the following:

  • Valid Texas State Teacher's Certification in Science (Grades 4-8) or a related science content

area.

  • Bachelor's degree with a passing score on the TExES Science exam for Grades 4-8 or the

applicable content area.

  • Bachelor's degree in Science Education, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science, or a

closely related field.

  • Bachelor's degree with an academic minor or major (minimum of 18 credit hours) in a core

science subject area.

  • Bachelor's degree and documented successful, relevant work experience in a science-related

field, established by at least one year of employment requiring demonstrated knowledge or skill

in the content area, supported by a professional letter of recommendation from the educator's

employer or supervisor.

Experience

  • Prior classroom teaching experience in science at the elementary or middle school level

preferred.

  • Experience with hands-on, inquiry-based science instruction and TEKS-aligned curriculum

preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Passion for students and strong content knowledge in science for Grades 4-6.
  • Ability to design and deliver engaging, inquiry-driven science lessons that build conceptual

understanding and scientific thinking.

  • Ability to maintain a classroom of approximately 20-25 students.
  • Ability and patience to work interactively with students of varying academic levels.
  • Ability to understand and respond to the academic needs of students.
  • Strong organizational, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, peers,

campus administration, and network staff.

  • Ability to interpret policy, procedures, and student data such as diagnostic test results, state

assessment scores, and grade point averages.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Computer literate; proficiency in standard classroom and grading technology.
  • Ability to travel as necessary (e.g., field trips, trainings).
