Description

The Teachers primary responsibility is to provide care for children in a child-initiated learning environment. This includes general supervision and management of a classroom of children. The Teacher provides developmental activities as part of a comprehensive program for childrens physical, cognitive, emotional, and social growth so that children can reach their highest potential.

Salary will be commensurate with education, and experience with children is preferred. Candidates must meet the requirements set by the Virginia Department of Education-Child Care VA licensing regulations for childcare/daycare centers.

Examples of Duties

  • Plans and facilitates a daily program of care and activities for the assigned classroom.
  • Contribute to the efficient functioning of the overall childcare program.
  • Develops and implements daily and weekly activity plans. Also, responsible for arranging the classroom space, setting, and materials, as well as the outdoor play equipment, to ensure a safe, clean, orderly, child-centered learning environment and a consistent daily schedule that promotes calm, comfortable, and successful participation for children in the program.
  • Promote a multicultural and anti-bias approach to learning and to the center environment. Show respect for each childs culture and background and their personal uniqueness.
  • Participate in and prepare for promotional activities and special events as necessary or assigned.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Center Director.

Typical Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Training and certification will be provided to ensure compliance with all state requirements.
  • The ability to lift 40 pounds is necessary.
  • Availability from Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., is required.
