GENERAL POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality care and education for children ages 12 weeks through school-age in a developmentally appropriate early childhood laboratory school environment. This position supports children's cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development through intentional teaching practices and positive guidance strategies aligned with NAEYC standards, Texas Rising Star criteria, and Texas Child Care Licensing Minimum Standards. The Teacher also serves as a model classroom educator by demonstrating best practices in early childhood education, effective classroom management, and professional interactions for college students, practicum participants, and visitors observing within the lab school setting. This position reports to the Facility Director of the Child Development Lab School and exercises no supervision.

NOTE: This is a security sensitive position and an appropriate background investigation will be made on applicants being strongly considered for this position.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

Knowledge of: 1. Texas Child Care Licensing Minimum Standards, Texas Rising Star standards, and NAEYC standards of quality; 2. Child growth and development from infancy through school-age; 3. Developmentally appropriate practices and early childhood curriculum planning; 4. Children's health, nutrition, and safety practices; 5. Positive guidance and classroom management strategies appropriate for young children; 6. Inclusive teaching practices and strategies to support diverse learning needs; Skills in: 7. Working with children ages 12 weeks through school-age in an early childhood setting; 8. Creating and maintaining a safe, nurturing, and engaging classroom environment; 9. Observing, documenting, and assessing children's development and learning; 10. CPR/First Aid; 11. Using Microsoft Office Suite and basic classroom technology; 12. Collaborating effectively with families, coworkers, college students, and visitors within a lab school environment; Ability to: 13. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with children, families, students, coworkers, and community members; 14. Communicate professionally and effectively using oral and written methods; 15. Problem-solve and make sound classroom decisions in a timely manner; 16. Model appropriate teaching, interaction, and guidance strategies for lab students, practicum students, and teacher aides; 17. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in accordance with college and childcare program expectations. 18. Provide caring, high-quality service by creating welcoming experiences, communicating clearly and proactively, addressing needs with professionalism and empathy, and ensuring individuals are thoughtfully connected to appropriate resources.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Restricted-Sustained posture, for prolonged periods; light lifting, some walking, pushing, pulling on a regular basis. Unpleasant Exposure Minor Hazard-Moderate exposure to dust, grease, noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes, and unpleasant but not hazardous odors are present. There is occasional exposure to risk controlled by safety precautions. Frequency and severity are limited.

QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Associate's degree in early childhood education, child development, elementary education, or early childhood special education, OR an Associate's degree with at least 36 credits in an early childhood education-related field

Experience: One year of experience working with young children, ages birth to five (5) years. Candidates may substitute a Bachelor's degree in an Education-related field for 1 year of experience

Special Requirements: Commitment to obtain CPR and First Aid certifications within first six weeks of employment
