Position Overview

District 211 is seeking candidates for teacher assistants in multiple areas and schools. Teacher Assistants play a vital role in the educational team, supporting teachers and students to ensure a positive, productive learning environment. This position involves working alongside professional colleagues to enhance classroom instruction and provide individualized or small-group support for students, including English language learners and those with special needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in individual, small-group, or large-group instruction under teacher supervision.
  • If assigned to work with students with special needImplement accommodations and supports specified in students' IEPss.
  • Facilitate classroom routines and provide additional support to facilitate instruction and learning, including organizing materials.
  • Communicate effectively with teachers, students, and staff to support learning objectives.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for all students.

Qualifications

  • Possess or have the ability to acquire appropriate licensure in Illinois to serve as a paraprofessional

  • Paraprofessionals meet qualifications by possessing either of the following:

  • A Short-term Approval as a Paraprofessional (Reference this ISBE document for information)

  • A Paraprofessional Educator Endorsement (Reference this ISBE document for information)

  • A Substitute teacher license (Reference this ISBE document for information)

  • A Professional Educator License

  • Prior experience in an educational or child care setting is beneficial

  • Ability to work collaboratively and follow teacher instructions.

  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

  • Commitment to maintaining professionalism, punctuality, and confidentiality.

  • Willingness to complete required licensure and training, including Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI).

  • Ability to meet physical requirements, such as assisting with mobility needs when necessary.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive hourly wage based with a starting rate on the Teacher Assistant Salary Schedule at Step 0 with no experience as a teacher or paraprofessional or Step 1 with one or more years of experience as a teacher or paraprofessional
