    Summary

    A special education teacher assistant provides support to special education teachers and students, assisting with both instructional and non-instructional tasks to ensure students receive a quality education. Key duties include supporting the teacher in implementing lessons, reinforcing learning concepts, monitoring student progress, and providing assistance with daily living and behavioral needs.

    Responsibilities:

    • Instructional Support:
      • Assisting with the preparation of instructional materials and classroom displays.
      • Working with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning concepts.
      • Adapting materials to meet individual student needs and learning styles.
      • Helping students with assignments, homework, and test preparation.
      • Monitoring student progress and providing feedback to the teacher.
      • Utilizing various teaching methods and strategies, including assistive technology.
    • Non-Instructional Support:
      • Assisting with classroom management and maintaining a positive learning environment.
      • Supervising students during recess, lunch, and other non-instructional activities.
      • Helping students with personal care tasks, such as toileting and hygiene.
      • Assisting with the implementation of behavior management plans and strategies.
      • Collecting and recording student data, such as skill practice and behavior observations.
      • Communicating with teachers, and other professionals regarding student progress and needs.
    • Other Duties:
      • Assisting with administrative tasks, such as record keeping and data entry.
      • Participating in staff meetings and professional development activities.
      • Maintaining a clean and organized classroom environment.
      • Providing support during transitions, such as bus loading and unloading to include escorting to residential setting.
      • Other job-related duties as assigned by supervisory staff.
