General Description

Under the supervision of the Teacher or designee, the Teacher Aide will assist with the preparation and presentation of the daily plan of activities for the children and generally help in all teaching and center related activities. This includes, but is not limited to: curriculum implementation, coordinating volunteers in the classroom, promotion of a positive self-image for each child and the assurance of the safety of all children. This is a modified-traditional position. This position is scheduled to work approximately 30 hours per week/6 hours a day. State of California Child Development Permit preferred.

Essential Functions

• Assist teacher in setting up daily activities and presenting them to the children.
• Work with teacher on curriculum planning as directed.
• Assist in the supervision of the children at all times.
• Assist teacher in completing child assessments/screenings, child observations, individual education plans, and identification of children with special needs or challenging behavior.
• Help ensure the smooth continuance of daily routines.
• Assist teacher on home visits and parent teacher conferences as needed.
• Assist teacher in coordinating activities for parents and other volunteers in the classroom and on field trips.
• Promote the positive self-image of each child and assist in the observation of children to determine their individual needs.
• Promote positive, professional relationships with staff and parents.
• Assist teacher on emergency and earthquake preparedness drills.
• Assist in general hygiene needs of children (i.e. diapering).
• Assist in center food preparation and food service including clean up.
• Assist in the general clean-up and packing up of items or furniture as needed.
• Attend center staff meetings, staff in-service and all other required meetings and trainings.
• This job description is not intended to be all-inclusive, and employee will also perform other reasonable related business duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and other management as required.

Education

High School Diploma or GED; Minimum twelve (12) Child Development units to include the core courses, indicated on the Child Development Permit Matrix.

Experience

Minimum of One (1) year paid or volunteer experience working in a toddler or preschool classroom environment.

Other/Special

Must be at least 18 years of age. Excellent oral and written skills. Pass a physical examination and tuberculin test and meet the State of California immunization requirement for employees of day care centers, immunization proof against influenza, pertussis and measles. Fingerprint clearance, criminal record, and sex offender registry check required. Verification of current driver's license and insurance required for personal car usage. State of California Child Development Permit preferred.
