QUALIFICATIONSBachelors degree or higher from a recognized accredited college or university
Eligible for a valid teaching certificate appropriate for assignment including deaf education ESL STR and TASC
Completion of student teaching or approved internship
Knowledge of students special needs and Individual Education Plan (IEP) process
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Ability to instruct students and manage behavior

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Collaborate with students, parents, and other members of staff to develop IEP through the IEP Committee process for each student assigned.
Implement as instructional program for students and develop individualized lesson plans.
Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, and materials that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to modify regular curricula as needed and assist deaf education students in general education classes with vocabulary, communication, and content knowledge.
Participate in IEP Committee staffing and IEP meetings for assigned students.
Conduct comprehensive assessment of students reading, language, and academic areas and use results to plan for instructional activities.
Utilize all accommodations and/or modifications and knowledge of deafness to teach subject matter according to guidelines established by IEP.
Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and capabilities of each student assigned.
Work collaboratively with general education teachers and support staff in planning for the instructional needs of assigned students.
Use technology in the teaching and learning process.
STUDENT GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement through prescribed testing protocols.
Advocate for additional student needs, including requests for interpreters, tutoring, or any other school-sponsored activities.
Be a positive role model for students and support the vision of the school district.
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT AND ORGANIZATION
Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
Effectively manage student behavior.
Consult with classroom teachers regarding management of student behavior according to IEP.
Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
COMMUNICATION
Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
Fluent sign language skills are necessary for those students requiring sign language as a communication need.
Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, counselors, and teachers.
Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
OTHER
Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
Keep informed of and comply with federal, state, district, and school regulations and policies for special education teachers.
Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other documents required.
Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.
